Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated games of the year. Developed by Insomniac Games, the game will continue the journeys of Peter Parker and Miles Morales from 2018's Marvel's Spider-Man and its spin-off, Spider-Man: Miles Morales respectively, as they fight crime and try to protect New York City. Both Spider-Men will have to face off against new and more powerful Marvel villains threatening to wreak havoc in their beloved city, and to do this they will need as much help as they can get. This is where Ganke Lee comes in.

The first two Spider-Man games do an excellent job of making Peter and Miles feel more relatable by focusing on their human side and showing the bonds between them and their friends and family. Where Marvel's Spider-Man featured the relationship between Peter and Mary Jane, Spider-Man: Miles Morales decided to focus on the friendship of Miles' and his pal Ganke, and with Marvel's Spider-Man 2 on the horizon, it would be interesting to see what role this tech nerd will get to play in the story.

The Role of Ganke Lee in Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Ganke Lee is introduced in Spider-Man: Miles Morales as Miles' best friend and partner, who studies software development at Brooklyn Visions Academy. Ganke was the first person, aside from Peter, to learn Miles Morales' secret identity as Spider-Man, showing the level of trust between the two characters. Throughout the game, Ganke acts as a guide to Miles' Spider-Man, providing him with technical support. He also developed the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man App to help Miles in assisting the residents of New York City in various ways.

Ganke plays a vital role as a guide during the events of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, however he is not given enough time to shine as his own character due to the short run time of the game. In contrast, Marvel's Spider-Man allowed players to play as Mary Jane Watson in various sections of the game, as she investigated crime throughout New York City, making her feel substantially more important.

How Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Can Upgrade Ganke's Character

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 should take a page out of the first game and allow players to step into the shoes of Ganke Lee in specific missions and segments of the game to make him feel more relevant to the story. Ganke could potentially stumble upon a villain's lair, or track down enemies on his own using his robots. He could even be used as a hostage, raising the stakes of the game in the process. The game could also feature an entire arc focusing on Ganke and MJ, as they bond over their roles as non-superhuman confidants of the Spider-Men.

Ganke's character is set to return in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 as revealed in the demo of the game shown during the recent PlayStation Showcase. In the demo, Ganke is seen providing support to Miles and helps him track down the Lizard using a remote controlled drone. The chase ends by leaving Miles and Ganke worried about Peter's growing aggression. This plot point is an excellent chance for the game to help Ganke shine, as it is heavily implied that Peter's new symbiotic suit will take a massive toll on his mental state, potentially leaving Miles and Ganke to bring him back to his senses.

Miles may be a great Spider-Man, but it would be near impossible for him to fight Peter Parker in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 without Ganke's aid. Ganke is a smart and resourceful character that has largely been underutilized in the games so far. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 may finally do the character justice by getting him directly involved in the action.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 launches on October 20 for the PlayStation 5.
