Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is one of the most anticipated games of 2023, being released exclusively for the PlayStation 5. Being developed by the reputable Insomniac Games, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 serves as a sequel to 2018's critically acclaimed Marvel's Spider-Man and its spin-off Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and continues the journey of both Peter and Miles as they don their spider-masks and fight crime in New York City. The game is set to release October 10, 2023 and has received multiple trailers showcasing its plot, characters and gameplay. The expectations from Marvel's Spider-Man 2 are at an all-time high after a demo was also released during the PlayStation Showcase in May which revealed many new details about the game

On top of having excellent visuals, gameplay and story, one of the best feats of the first Spider-Man game was the inclusion of multiple big villains which made its narrative thoroughly intriguing. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 also features new and more dangerous villains for the Spider-Men to take on. However, one villain is most likely going to stand out as the final boss of the story.

Villains Set to Feature in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Marvel's Spider-Man 2

The first Spider-Man game featured many powerful iconic enemies looking to ruin Peter, such as Kingpin, Electro, Mister Negative, Scorpion, and Rhino to name a few, however the biggest and baddest of them all turned to be none other than Peter's mentor and close friend Doctor Octavius, also known as Doctor Octopus. While the Green Goblin and Venom, two of Spider-Man's most iconic enemies, did not make a full appearance in the first game, their presence was still teased, and it was heavily implied that Norman Osborn could still become the Green Goblin, while Harry Osborn may be the new Venom.

So far, fans have received confirmation on three major villains set to take center stage in Marvel's Spider-Man 2. First up is the Lizard, also known as Dr. Curt Connors, revealed in the gameplay demo during PlayStation's showcase. The second is Kraven the Hunter who, in search of a worthy hunt, is set to make his way to New York City. And last but not least is Venom, whose appearance as a major villain in Spider-Man 2 was teased in the final moments of the first game as well as Marvel's Spider-Man 2's first teaser trailer.

Why Venom is Probably The Final Boss In Spider-Man 2

Marvel's Spider-Man 2

While Kraven the Hunter and The Lizard are great villains in their own right, they do not compare to Venom's significance in the Spider-Man canon. Moreover, the first game hooked fans up with its narrative by creating emotional tension between Peter Parker and Doctor Octavius, whose eventual fall into villainy as Doctor Octopus served as a very powerful moment in the game. There is a high chance that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will be looking to recreate the same magic by making its final boss one of Spider-Man's closest friends, which in this case is Harry Osborn, being teased as the Venom. After all, Miles Morales already did the same thing by pitting Miles against one of his dearest friends.

Usually, it's Eddie Brock that hosts the Venom symbiote; however, the ending of the first game suggested that in this iteration of the Spider-Man universe, Harry Osborn is the one that comes into contact with the alien symbiote as a result of his father's experimental treatment for Harry's illness. As Peter's best friend, Harry's character and his eventual reveal as the Venom will have a heavy impact on Peter and Miles, and their face-off is bound to be one with high stakes involved. Thus, it makes perfect sense for Spider-Man 2 to feature Venom as its final boss.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 launches on October 20 for the PlayStation 5.
