Gamers have had a few months to swing around the streets of New York City once again in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and at this point it's safe to say developer Insomniac delivered yet another stellar experience. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 excels at realizing the sensational world of its wall-crawlers through thrilling gameplay and an emotional story. In terms of the finer details, Spider-Man 2 also serves as a technical powerhouse, fully demonstrating the graphical and processing power of the PS5 in what feels like a true display of this console generation's potential.

As is the case with many games of Spider-Man 2's caliber, the question on many fans' minds has been whether the sequel will receive DLC. Story DLC can feel like a novel concept in today's era of live-service titles that get regular content updates, but it's still an essential way for single-player experiences to expand beyond release. Sony nor Insomniac have given much indication that there are definite DLC plans, however, with Insomniac just recently announcing when New Game+ will arrive in Spider-Man 2. It may yet happen in the future, but for the time being, Sony is losing out by not making Spider-Man 2 DLC plans clear.

Spider-Man 2 Leak Hints at Cut Symbiote Bosses and Storylines

New leaks offer a glimpse of multiple symbiote bosses and story ideas that were seemingly cut from the final version of Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Ends On Several Cliffhangers

Spider-Man 2 featured a tense ending that teased the return of Doc Ock, but its main narrative wasn't the only thing that left players on a cliffhanger. Many of the sequel's side missions appeared to set up future storytelling that could be fully realized in DLC. The Flame side mission would be a strong candidate for a DLC expansion, as it ended by teasing the appearance of the symbiote menace Carnage. DLC that centers around the popular, psychopathic symbiote would draw a lot of eyes back to Spider-Man 2, and it could even get gamers who passed up on the sequel to dive into the full experience.

Spider-Man 2 DLC Could Put The Spotlight On Miles Morales

One of Spider-Man 2's most exciting features is the ability to play as both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, but by the time the credits roll, it's clear Miles Morales didn't receive the same attention. With Spider-Man 2's ending insinuating that Miles could pick up some of Peter's duties while Parker focuses more on his personal life, DLC would have a unique opportunity to provide a Miles-centric story. Miles' story had its own cliffhanger with the introduction of Cindy Moon in Spider-Man 2's post-credit scene, and a story expansion could explore her character as well as Miles' new Spider-Man responsibilities.

Spider-Man 2 Already Has A Strong DLC Blueprint

In addition to its pure narrative benefits, Spider-Man 2 DLC would have the opportunity to be a low-risk, high-reward venture because many fans are already familiar with the first Spider-Man's DLC structure. Insomniac provided three chapters offering hours of extra content both in terms of story and gameplay opportunities. The DLC didn't feel malnourished, nor was it overwhelmingly grand, allowing for a balanced experience that gave players a reason to swing around NYC once again. If Spider-Man 2's DLC follows a similar structure, fans could have peace of mind knowing it'll be a worthwhile purchase.

Many fans have been eagerly awaiting news on Spider-Man 2's New Game+, and now that it has an official release, all eyes are sure to turn towards DLC plans. It may feel like an inevitability to some, but Sony and Insomniac's lack of Spider-Man 2 updates is somewhat concerning. That said, Insomniac may want to move on from Spider-Man with everything else it has on its plate in the Marvel pantheon. That said, with any luck, Sony will give gamers a reason to load up Marvel's Spider-Man 2 yet again sooner rather than later.
