Marvel’s Midnight Suns recently released a story trailer for Storm, who arrives May 11 as the game’s final Season Pass DLC character. Like clockwork, YouTuber Christopher Odd has followed shortly after to release a gameplay showcase video for Storm’s tactical strategies, and in it, there is a lot to learn about the X-Men’s weather-manipulating mutant. Interestingly, Odd seems careful about their choice of words when defining Storm as the last “announced” character deep-dive, which alludes to the idea of more Marvel’s Midnight Suns DLC in the pipeline.

In the meantime, fans had as much to assume about how Storm would play as they did with Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ Morbius. Storm can manifest swirling tornadoes, hurl lightning, and affect the weather in any way she chooses. This is no different in Marvel’s Midnight Suns, where those sorts of concepts come into play with her own attack, skill, and heroic cards. Storm is indeed the final DLC character presently known about, but she also brings with her a brand-new mechanic in the game, which is unambiguously dubbed ‘Next Turn.’

Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ Storm Introduces the ‘Next Turn’ Mechanic

Storm brings more X-Men representation to Marvel’s Midnight Suns next week, and her abilities are relatively straightforward. Storm’s Gale Force attack card, for example, is a simple attack with Forceful Knockback. However, where Storm’s cards begin to get interesting is through the Next Turn effect.

Each card Storm has with an associable Next Turn effect states what that particular card will also possess if players decide to hang onto it until then. In the case of Gale Force, the attack card will gain Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ Quick effect if they hold it in their hand for a turn. This creates a balancing act the player will have to deem worthwhile or not, considering the fact that their hand could be full of cards they may not want to keep.

Storm cards could quickly fill the player’s hand this way if each one of them has a desired effect later on, which could be troubling if the player is hoping to see a certain card drawn from another party member. It seems like Next Turn has some potential middling effects to expect from Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ Storm DLC, though, with Storm’s Crushing Blow heroic card having an increase of 50 damage in the next turn at the cost of one more heroism.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ Storm Can Exploit Stun and Resist Effects

The Stun effect is relatively underwhelming in Marvel’s Midnight Suns due to how few characters can actually administer it on their own. Storm seems to be the answer to that gripe, then, since her passive ability can be upgraded at the Abbey to increase a percentage-based chance that her attack and heroic cards will apply Stun.

The original tier of her passive ability only affords a 10 percent chance, too, which means players will likely want to maximize her friendship level in Marvel’s Midnight Suns if they intend to take advantage of this opportunity. The second tier of this passive increases the percentage chance by five percent for each Storm card players currently has in their hand.

This is exceptional because players' stockpile of Storm cards will have an additional boon to them while players need to wait for the Next Turn effect to trigger. Lastly, Storm’s Stormshield skill card applies two Resist to all allies, and Storm gains one Resist each turn that Stormshield sits in the player’s hand, giving her a seemingly overpowered means of defense if fans play their cards right.

Marvel's Midnight Suns is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, with PS4 and Xbox One versions releasing May 11.
