Marvel’s Midnight Suns referenced a bunch of characters that never ended up actually appearing in-game. Of course, Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ tarot cards were a big part of that, showcasing characters with associable ties to different tarot themes, such as Thor representing Strength or Johnny Storm representing the Sun. But a couple of characters are referenced in both a tarot card and in the game’s environmental storytelling, which reveals that Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ universe has its own Daredevil.

Daredevil is not seen in-game, but he does appear in a pair with Elektra to represent the Lovers tarot card. Moreover, weight plates from ‘Fogwell’ are on display in the Abbey’s training grounds as an obvious reference to Fogwell’s Gym, and a sign for Nelson and Murdock appears in gameplay. It would have been incredible to see how Daredevil’s abilities could be designed for Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ card-based tactical RPG, though a sequel now has the perfect blueprint for an ability of his that it could take inspiration for from another card-based game: Marvel Snap.

Marvel Snap’s Daredevil Has a Brilliant Ability

hl-5

Marvel Snap’s Daredevil is a card with relatively low cost and power, which is helpful if players are trying to fill locations early on. But more important is Daredevil’s unique card ability, playing into his impressive extrasensory powers. On the fifth turn of the match, Daredevil’s card ensures that the player will be able to see their opponent’s move before they make their own move.

This is not overpowered since there is typically only one more turn after the fifth turn anyway, but it can turn the tide of a match with full knowledge of what the opponent intends to do. This could thwart an opponent from placing something that will ultimately backfire upon them, for example, if the player is indeed able to counter it.

However, the player who drew Daredevil might not be able to do anything to win that location after all, though it is still a great way to bluff in tandem with Marvel Snap’s Cosmic Cube meta. The idea is not that Daredevil can see into the future, but that he is able to perceive things with heightened senses. In this same regard, Daredevil would have tons of creative potential in a Marvel’s Midnight Suns sequel.

Daredevil Could Have a Similar Ability in Marvel’s Midnight Suns

Daredevil in a Marvel’s Midnight Suns sequel could obviously make use of his acrobatics and billy club to dominate the battlefield with regular attack cards. Rather, the most intriguing element he could contribute to tactical gameplay is perceiving what an enemy’s next attack might be, who an enemy might be targeting next, or which enemies might be arriving next turn as part of new reinforcements that appear.

This could easily be designed as a skill or heroic card that requires a fair bit of heroism to use, and its subsequent upgrades could lower that heroism cost to make it fully optimal. There are many applications in which Daredevil’s abilities could be employed in Marvel’s Midnight Suns, and having more status effects or mechanics in its gameplay would be a boon after how oversaturated Bleed was in Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ post-launch DLC campaign.

Marvel Snap has a similar issue, where there are simply so many cards that having a unique ability for each would be too cumbersome. Daredevil having his own authentic ability, then, makes him special. It is unknown which characters would be selected for a sequel if one was confirmed to be in development, but there is a strong argument for Daredevil to be included with inspiration drawn from Marvel Snap.

Marvel's Midnight Suns is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
