Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a refreshing experience for many reasons, with its focus on tactical RPG mechanics and social simulation features being a welcome new chapter. It is always great to see how developers will reinterpret these larger-than-life characters from the colossal Marvel pantheon, even considering the fact that they have been oversaturated in modern media. Rather, now would actually be a terrific time for Marvel’s Midnight Suns to gain from the MCU, with one character’s rehashing being a prime candidate for Firaxis and 2K to do the same.

It has become fairly common in the MCU now for Marvel characters to be repurposed in order to make the character more exciting after a decade, if not to try adding a bit of diversity and representation to its catalog. It is unknown if Firaxis has a dedicated sequel planned or not, but based on how Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ post-launch DLC ends, it seems entirely likely that fans could be getting one. If this is the case, its Captain America deserves to have his own reinterpretation through the comic-accurate moniker swap that Sam Wilson’s Falcon eventually inherits.

Some characters in Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ roster have already reached their full potential. On the other hand, there are several characters who could easily return in a sequel with more to offer. Many players would likely be unhappy if characters were reprised if they had no more to offer in narrative or gameplay, but it would be a great way to help Marvel’s Midnight Suns make that transition, especially if it relocated somewhere else with a fresh batch of playable characters.

Likewise, it could be argued that characters such as Captain America have already had their time in the sun and that having characters such as him return would take the place of another potential character instead. This is true of Captain America, whose stalwart righteousness is addicting to be around in Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ Abbey, but whose gameplay may have already capped out with shield ricochets and an emphasis on Block.

Steve Rogers is synonymous with Captain America to a lot of people, but they will soon know Sam Wilson by the same name soon; that is if they don't already. Therefore, Captain America could be reinvented for Marvel’s Midnight Suns in the same way that Steve Rogers’ baton was passed onto Sam Wilson in the MCU.

Wilson’s Captain America could be newly invigorating for Marvel’s Midnight Suns by playing on similar attack, skill, and heroic cards that Rogers had, but also implementing everything that makes him unique. Taking from his days as the Falcon, Wilson uses wing technology to soar around, and a falcon named Redwing whom he communicates with telepathically—in the MCU, Redwing is a simple reconnaissance drone.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns could bring Wilson’s flight into play as it has with other flight-capable characters. Moreover, Redwing would be an exceptional part of Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ tactical turn-based gameplay if it could scan enemies or attack with other kinds of weaponry. Marvel's Midnight Suns could take either Redwing interpretation and run with it, seeing as how the companion character has not been nearly as foundational in the MCU as it is in the comics.

Of course, the shield would still need to be an instrumental part of Captain America’s gameplay, but that would give Marvel’s Midnight Suns an opportunity to explore other card abilities relative to the shield itself. Captain America’s gameplay in Marvel’s Midnight Suns has far too many ordinary punches, for example, whereas Wilson could be designed to employ the shield in much more creative ways as he flies around the environment.

Marvel's Midnight Suns is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
