Marvel's Midnight Suns offers players many opportunities to explore the Abbey and gain a variety of benefits from doing so. In order to further the Hunter's investigations of the Abbey, however, players will need to participate in a number of combat challenges known as "Blood Gates." These challenges are accessed once a mystery has been solved in the Abbey to grant access to the necessary Moon Seal and must be completed in order to progress beyond them.

Marvel's Midnight Suns often tasks players with overcoming tricky puzzles and some very tricky combat gauntlets in order to earn the best rewards, and Blood Gates are no exception. Clearing the second Blood Gate is necessary to obtain the second Word of Power and gain access to a new and darker area of the Abbey.

Gaining the Moon Seal

Midnight Suns_Elemental Altar

In order to obtain the Moon Seal needed to access the second Blood Gate, players will need to complete Agatha's task of recovering the four Elemental Rods scattered around the Abbey. These can all be accessed as soon as she offers this task, and are located in the Whispering Woods, Hunter's Folly (Open the Tomb using a Power Word), the Barracks Chapel, and the pool near Blade's Yard.

Take the rods back to the Altar and place them on the correct pedestals to acquire the Moon Seal, which will also cause Agatha to explain the location of the next Blood Gate.

Completing the Blood Gate Challenge

Midnight Suns_Hunter and Demon

This Blood Gate gives players a brutal challenge from Atum, requiring players to survive four turns against a respawning army of demons while also eliminating 16 of the demons. Players only have access to the Hunter and Charlie for this mission, but with a good setup, this isn't as tricky as it first appears. Players should try to get the Hunter to around level 8 before they attempt this challenge for the best results.

Players should make sure they have plenty of Quick cards on the Hunter to squeeze extra card plays out of each turn, targeting the weaker hellhound enemies first to maximize their actions. Charlie has a powerful card called Howl that can mark enemies, causing them to refund a card play when defeated and further extending combos, and the more powerful demons will always target the last hero to attack them, allowing players to manage aggro more effectively.

Charlie also has a Bite card that allows her to refund card plays if she KOs an enemy with a Bite, which is fantastic for further extending plays and maximizing damage on each turn.

Use the environment to strike extra targets by spending heroism where possible, and make sure to equip the Hunter with some healing cards so that they can keep themselves and Charlie topped up on health throughout. Players with access to the Guarded Strike card might find it useful to focus enemy attacks onto the Hunter as much as possible and use the extra armor alongside the Hunter's healing cards to tank the stronger foes.

Finally, acquiring the Shove Upgrade for the Yard will allow players to spend a move to shove enemies, which is excellent for eliminating weaker foes and damaging stronger ones while also repositioning enemies for follow-up attacks. Grabbing the upgrade for the Yard that allows players to knock enemies into other Heroes for extra damage is also incredibly valuable for this challenge, allowing the Hunter and Charlie to bounce enemies off each other for massive damage.

This challenge can be attempted once a night in the event players fail their first attempt, and completing it will grant access to a new section of the map along with the Word of Power "Reveal." This new Word of Power allows players to reveal hidden objects in the world, often marked by Atum's symbol on a stone plate nearby.

Marvel's Midnight Suns is available now for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, and is coming soon to PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
