Firaxis Games has unveiled the official launch trailer for Marvel's Midnight Suns. The tactical RPG, set to arrive on December 2, represents a bold new step in both gameplay design from Firaxis Games and the Marvel expanded universe.

Marvel's Midnight Suns explores a much darker, more supernatural side of Marvel. Gamers will play as the mysterious Hunter, tasked with tracking down and stopping the Mother of Demons, Lilith, as she attempts to summon her ancient master, Chthon. Leading a motley crew of heroes from the Marvel universe, composed of crowd favorites and lesser-known champions from the expanded cast of characters, players of Firaxis Games' XCOM series will feel right at home with the tactical, turn-based combat, now bolstered by an all-new card battle system.

The trailer for Marvel's Midnight Suns starts bleakly. Doctor Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum has fallen, usurped by Lilith for a nefarious ritual, her sickly green aura emanating from the iconic landmark's windows as gnarled roots envelop the exterior. Despite the best efforts of Doctor Strange and others, The Mother of Demons succeeds in her task, destroying the magical headquarters and unleashing literal hell upon the rest of the world. Players will fill the role of the Hunter, aided by an unlikely cast of Marvel heroes, who must band together to stem the tide of invading demons and put an end to Lilith's plan to summon Chthon and bring forth armageddon, fulfilling the prophecy of the midnight sun.

There are iconic Marvel superheroes abound in the trailer, with crowd favorites Spider-man and Wolverine teaming up with the likes of Hellrider and Blade to put an end to Lilith's plans and ensure the prophecy of the midnight sun does not come to pass. The trailer teases glimpses at some of the most well-known superheroes in bold new looks. A captured scene shows what appears to be the Hulk, adorned with horns and infused with demonic energy, bracing himself from a salvo of missiles. The inspired new regalia for the characters in Midnight Suns is also teased in the trailer, with the heroes sporting black, rune-etched armor in shimmering gold trim.

Marvel's Midnight Suns comes out on December 2, and between the tactical RPG pedigree of Firaxis and what has been shown of the game so far, there is plenty to be excited about. More will be known when the review embargo lifts on November 30, but for now, Midnight Suns and its confirmed season pass are shaping up to be a solid addition to this packed slate of holiday season releases.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns launches December 2 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, with PS4, Switch, and Xbox One versions coming later.
