Theoretically, it's possible to go through all of Marvel's Midnight Suns without playing a hero combo card. These specific cards aren't like other hero cards that can be added to a hero's deck. Players looking to win them from a Gamma Coil, upgrade them, or edit them are in for a rude awakening.
Yet it becomes seriously disadvantageous to play without a combo card in Marvel's Midnight Suns. On the toughest difficulty settings, not at least having the option to use them is limiting; reinforcements can start to pile up in a hurry. Players should try to get at least one in their hand for every fight.
Unlocking Hero Combo Cards
- Get a hero to at least friendship level one.
- Bring that hero into combat.
Although it is possible to avoid making friends, it's certainly not recommended. If The Hunter decides to play a lone wolf, they'll be passing up on some incredible cards; ones that can potentially wipe out an elite unit in a single round if played correctly.
Players will need to have Hunter build up his relationships with the heroes they like to use as teammates. At level zero, even if players have made some progress in terms of friendship, they won't get any hero combo cards. But when they hit level one, they'll start out with one in their hand going forward.
Take some time around the abbey, speak to the characters, help them out, compliment the squad, and generally be nice to everybody to see friendship numbers increase. When the opportunity comes along, take them on events at various havens.
These cards are good, but of course, gamers will still want to edit their decks to keep the best cards in rotation. These combo cards are big spenders, so players will need to generate lots of heroism just to use them.
Upgrading hero cards is different from upgrading hero combo cards. These cards will increase in power based on the friendship level The Hunter has with the team. The stronger the bond, the better the card.
