The Marvel universe is home to a plethora of superheroes and supervillains alike, with a library of hundreds of iconic heroes and villains to draw from. The potential rosters for the franchise's video games are constantly growing, and their latest title, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, is no exception. From what we know so far, it appears that the creators are steadily adding more powerful and spectacular Marvel characters.
The game’s cast of villains has grown during Summer Game Fest 2022, with a new trailer for the game showing Marvel fans a lot more of what they can expect from the game. More importantly, the trailer gives future players their first look at some of the villains they will be facing.
6 Lilith
The apparent primary antagonist of Marvel’s Midnight Suns appears to be the evil entity known as Lilith. This character isn’t as famous as other Marvel villains like Thanos the Mad Titan, but she is directly responsible for the formation of the Midnight Suns. This is due to Ghost Rider receiving a vision that showed him Lilith, the Mother of All Demons, being resurrected to become a grave threat.
Lilith is a menacing villain, and judging by the Midnight Suns trailer, she can transform and corrupt other Marvel Legends characters into sick, twisted, demonic entities to do her bidding. Lilith should be considered an Omega-level threat for her powers and ability to make heroes “Fallen” versions of themselves.
5 The Hulk
One of the biggest surprises for Marvel fans whilst watching the Summer Games Fest 2022 trailer for Midnight Suns was when a green flame portal opens, and none other but The Hulk bounds over it in a menacing manner. Ditching his iconic ripped purple shorts, Hulk seems to be sporting a purple loincloth, and most notably, demonic horns and scales.
It will be interesting to see how the video game handles The Hulk, a character famed for his unbridled rage. Since Hulk is corrupted here, there will be no limits to his rage, thus making him even stronger than perhaps even he thought possible.
4 Venom
The Summer Games 2022 trailer opens with Venom, who is seen sporting his classic comics look. His skin is slimy, and his long tongue hangs from his unhinged jaw. His iconic spider logo stretches across his chest, torso, and back. Fans might recognize Venom’s defeated foes as Lilith’s demons, and she intervenes by chasing him with her green flames.
As Venom races across New York City, Lilith finally catches him and corrupts him into one of her allies. Venom now appears bigger, with gigantic head horns, and an even longer glowing green tongue. As if the character did not look menacing enough, Lilith exceeded fans’ expectations on the “metal” look.
3 Scarlet Witch
The Scarlet Witch was last seen onscreen in Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Here, she returns to video game form and seems to be joined with Lilith. It's unclear whether she is acting as a willing ally due to her the lust for power, or has been corrupted against her will and is now a pawn for Lilith.
Either way, Scarlet Witch is certainly a magic wielder that many should fear, and she is often regarded by fans of both the comics and the films as one of the most powerful beings in Marvel. One of her most iconic moments is the declaration of “No more mutants,” something Wolverine might fear, as he is on the Midnight Suns roster.
2 Sabretooth
The iconic rival of Wolverine appeared in a gameplay presentation on September 7, 2021. Sabretooth received a title card, which called him “Second best there is at what he does!” In this first look, Sabretooth is seen in his comic book costume, with his headpiece, thick fur hood, and color scheme of brown and yellow.
In the latest look at the character, he appears behind Lilith and seems to have embraced her corrupted powers. His skin is more scaly, and he has far more sharp and pointy spikes than just his claws. His shoulders are like pauldrons, and he has horns and green fire on his arms and back.
1 HYDRA
Fans have eagerly awaited more reveals from Firaxis’ tactical RPG, and one long-awaited reveal is that the other set of villains to join Lilith will be Hydra. Hydra is known in the comics as an evil organization, dedicated to taking over a new world order. Like the many-headed serpent of the same name, Hydra always seems to return when defeated.
Lilith could be the latest plan up Hydra’s sleeve, and perhaps the most demonic so far. Notable members of hydra are Baron Strucker and Red Skull, villains that we may see in Midnight Suns, but with no knowledge of the villainous two so far. The player-created protagonist will surely have their hands full.
