Now that a Season Pass has been officially revealed for Marvel’s Midnight Suns, fans have a huge incentive to pre-order or purchase the game’s Legendary Edition. The Season Pass does not yet have a release date, though it does have a window of early 2023. In it, fans will be treated to Deadpool, Storm, Venom, and Morbius as playable characters. Storm is a particularly interesting choice as she is another X-Men affiliate, though she may not have the popularity that a character such as Wolverine has today.

Season Pass characters’ releases seem to be individual since Deadpool is being released first. Therefore, it is unknown how long fans will have to wait before Storm will be playable. However, based on the order in which Deadpool teased Marvel’s Midnight Suns DLC characters, it may be assumed that Storm will be released second. If any Marvel fans are unfamiliar with the X-Men, then Ororo Munroe may be a more obscure character to them. But Marvel’s Midnight Suns has a great opportunity here to showcase the weather-manipulating mutant in her own spotlight.

X-Men’s Storm Shows Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ Diversity

Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ base game roster has many iconic characters from the Marvel pantheon. Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, and Doctor Strange are ubiquitous names now, thanks to popular modern interpretations. This plays in Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ favor since it does not necessarily need to have a formal introduction to help fans become familiar with them in-game. It is also favorable since Marvel’s Midnight Suns has decades and decades of source material to sift through for inspiration on how characters should look and play.

Rather, Storm is demonstrative of a similar premise, but in terms of lesser-known characters. She is popular in the X-Men universe, but by modern standards, she has not been portrayed as adequately as other X-Men characters have. It is great nonetheless to see another X-Men character receive their due diligence, and while Marvel’s Midnight Suns could have picked a more popular option in Rogue, Cyclops, or Nightcrawler, it is fantastic to see that Storm will receive much-needed attention.

Storm’s appearance as a playable character in Marvel’s Midnight Suns grants her a chance to be interpreted well as one of the game’s few X-Men, showcasing that the game wishes to have an equal blend of characters who are unmistakably popular and characters who could benefit from having their own limelight.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns Has No Problem Adding Overpowered Characters

Storm’s weather manipulation may sound basic on paper, but her abilities are incredibly powerful, discerning her as one of the most powerful mutants. In terms of how Marvel’s Midnight Suns intends to balance its characters, it seems to have loaded its plate with some of the most overpowered characters in Marvel’s history.

Captain Marvel and Scarlet Witch alone are surprising additions due to their power levels, and balancing them in a team with Blade or Spider-Man may seem dysfunctional or asymmetrical. Fortunately, each character concentrates on different gameplay mechanics in Marvel’s Midnight Suns that balance them out individually.

It is conceivable that Storm’s gameplay will revolve around AoEs that affect different environmental movements, potentially showering hail or snow onto a region of the battleground. Likewise, Storm could have single-target attack cards, such as being able to strike enemies down with lightning or drawing an overcast over one enemy in particular. There are advantages and disadvantages to each character, and it will be fun to see how Storm is iterated upon in Marvel’s Midnight Suns with her own powerful abilities.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns launches December 2 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S with PS4, Switch, and Xbox One versions coming later.
