Marvel's Avengers has had a quite an interesting rollercoaster so far and it's still many months away from launch. After the game was originally teased in a short cinematic, players had to wait years for a proper reveal at last summer's E3 event. Just as hype was really starting to build towards the May release date a surprise delay came along and pushed the game back to September 4, 2020.

The new release date has sort of pushed Marvel's Avengers out of the spotlight for the time being, but hardcore Marvel fans aren't ready to stop thinking about the game just yet. Although the limited gameplay reveals and trailers have only unveiled a small handful of villains and henchmen, there are some other hints pointing towards more enemies who will make an appearance in the game.

With the game not arriving until late summer, Square Enix is slowing down its reveal trailers and promos for the title, although the company did just unveil some tempting Marvel's Avengers pre-order bonuses and special editions. With a lack of other official information available, players have turned to spoiler territory and started tearing through a supposed leaked achievement list for other information about the game's plot details.

Spoiler Warning: If the leaked achievement list ends up proving true, then some of the achievements could definitely be considered spoiler territory.

With that in mind, combining what has been revealed in official trailers with the achievement list leaks allows gamers to start to see part of the bigger picture when it comes to the game's villains. Who is really the mastermind behind the attacks at the A-Day ceremonies is still a mystery, but there are some suspects and henchmen who seem to be involved to some degree.

Taskmaster

Taskmaster Spider-Man PS4

Some of the game's earliest revealed footage confirmed that Taskmaster is going to be a villain in the game. Based on the footage that was shared, it seems likely that Taskmaster is a villain who appears early in the game and likely isn't the main mastermind behind the destruction of the Avengers.

For those who aren't aware, Taskmaster is a classic Marvel villain who is often associated with Captain America. Once he appears in this summer's Black Widow prequel film, he'll likely become well-known with Marvel Cinematic Universe fans, as well.

Taskmaster's primary skill set involves copying the combat skills of his opponents. This makes him deadly will just about any weapon and he's even been known to wield a shield similar to Captain America's so that he can mimic the devastating shield toss offensive and shield block defense that the first avengers is known for.

AIM

When a Marvel game requires hordes of faceless foot soldiers to defeat, AIM can't be far behind. Although AIM, Advanced Idea Mechanics, appeared as a more deadly threat in Iron Man 3, the group is more frequently a bit more of a joke. The yellow-suit wearing grunts are sort of the Marvel equivalent of Stormtrooper and are not known for their marksmanship or their brilliance (despite their connection to evil science experiments).

AIM will likely be the tool of a bigger enemy in Marvel's Avengers and players should expect to smash their way through tons of these bad guys on their way to true boss fights.

MODOK

As players start working through the leaked achievement list, they'll find themselves facing off with MODOK. This evil genius, also known as the Mental/Mobile/Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing, has yet to appear in the MCU, but has been a villain in Marvel comics since the late 1960s.

MODOK is genius who is often pulling the strings at AIM who specializes in futuristic, experimental weapons. Although MODOK isn't very deadly on his own, the villain is always armed to the teeth and it seems very likely players will have to find a way to work through his defenses and disarm the giant head at some point in Marvel's Avengers.

Kree

In an interesting twist, the Kree are also hinted at in the leaked Marvel's Avengers achievement list. Although AIM, Taskmaster, and even MODOK are villains that easily could've been predicted based on what we know about the game's playable heroes, the Kree brings an interesting intergalactic twist to the game's story.

So far, everything we've seen as hinted at a story that is pretty grounded on Earth. With the involvement of the Kree, things open up quite a bit. It will be interesting to see if the Kree are invading Earth or if the heroes are going to do some space travel and meet up with those enemies somewhere else.

The Kree also strongly connect to Captain Marvel's story in the comics, so it's likely that their inclusion in the game is going to once again spark speculation that Captain Marvel is going to become a playable character sometime in the near future. It seems inevitable that more playable characters will arrive once the game is up and running and starts rolling out DLC, so setting the groundwork for a popular character like Carol Danvers early-on makes a lot of sense.

For now, those are all of the villains who have been hinted at or confirmed, but it seems highly likely that this is still a small sampling of what players will be facing off against when September arrives. The game contains a single-player campaign and repeatable group missions, so there will have to be plenty of grunts and boss fights to keep them
