Gamers can pick up Marvel's Avengers for a super low price as Square Enix prepares to delist the game after ending support for it earlier in the year. Developed by Crystal Dynamics, best known for handling the well-received Tomb Raider reboot trilogy, Marvel's Avengers launched in September 2020 to poor reception. The slow rollout of new heroes and story expansions in the months and years following further hindered its success as an ongoing, evolving title.

The online co-op-focused melee action title starring Earth's Mightiest Heroes was heavily criticized for its subpar live service model and a frequently delayed post-launch roadmap, which caused dissatisfaction for players who embraced the title's status as a service. Earlier this year, just over two years since the game's launch, Square Enix had announced that Crystal Dynamics would end support on Marvel's Avengers, and that it would be delisted in September. The final update to the game came in March, which generously unlocked most of the skins and cosmetic items free for all players.

As Square Enix prepares to delist its unsuccessful Marvel title across digital storefronts on September 30, its giving Marvel fans one last chance to grab the game at a low cost. Marvel's Avengers is currently listed at just $3.99 across the PlayStation and Xbox stores, as well as on Steam. Puzzlingly, the title's definitive edition is still available to purchase on Xbox's store for $39.99.

With Crystal Dynamics moving on to new projects like its new Tomb Raider game and assisting Xbox's The Initiative on Perfect Dark, it makes more than enough sense for support to end for Marvel's Avengers, a game that largely has come and gone. That said, since Square Enix is committed to keeping the game playable in some capacity, there's still a solid story on offer that Marvel fans are likely to enjoy. Along with all the expansions and post-launch heroes that are already available for free, Marvel's Avengers is well worth picking up for $3.99 before its permanent delisting.

Square Enix's Avengers is just one of several live service titles that have been shut down and delisted in the past few years. With games like Destiny 2, Call of Duty, Fortnite, Overwatch 2, and Apex Legends continuing to dominate the landscape, it's incredibly difficult for new live service titles to find their footing, despite even having such a massive IP like Marvel attached. Rocksteady's upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League seems like it's aiming to try what Marvel's Avengers attempted. Time will tell whether it'll be able to find long-term success and grow a dedicated playerbase, or if it'll share the same unfortunate fate as its soon-to-be-deslisted Marvel counterpart.

Marvel's Avengers is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
