Marvel’s Avengers fans have been receiving new content at a steady rate, with a new event or mission added each month since the game’s roadmap was revealed. This pattern seems set to continue going forward as well, as Marvel’s Avengers’ latest roadmap update confirms that the game’s next content drop is happening in June. Next month, gamers can expect to see the Cosmic Cube Villain Sector added to the game’s lineup of replayable missions.

With Marvel’s Avengers fans consistently requesting new Villain Sectors, this addition is welcome, as it could help greatly with the lack of unique boss fights. With Taskmaster and Abomination used for most of the Villain Sector missions, and War Bots used in the rest, gamers are understandably bored of playing the same final encounters. While Maestro’s Villain Sector added a bit more variety, it was just one mission, and his fight was similar to Abomination’s in a few ways. However, the Cosmic Cube Villain Sector has the chance to deliver a truly special boss fight — and fans have good reason to be optimistic.

The Power Of The Cosmic Cube And A Different Kind Of Monica Boss Battle

The device at the center of the Villain Sector should be familiar to Marvel fans, as it has appeared in both the comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the movie’s version housed an infinity stone, the comic book version of the artifact is a powerful tool in its own right. At times a living being, the Cosmic Cube houses an incredible amount of power, as it is able to shoot out energy blasts and empower its wearer in multiple ways. Most importantly, it is able to alter reality, giving its wielder anything that they desire.

Hawkeye’s Future Imperfect DLC showed these reality-altering abilities, with the Cosmic Cube freezing time. Wielded by Monica Rappaccini, players will likely be attempting to get the device away from her in hopes that the future can be saved. Doing so will lead to the Villain Sector’s boss fight, with players facing off against a version of the Scientist Supreme that is empowered by the Cosmic Cube. While players faced off against a version of Monica in the story, this battle is shaping up to be an entirely different fight.

Instead of wearing another mech, Monica will be ditching the white mech in favor of the Cosmic Cube. Relying entirely on the device for her attacks, players can expect her fight to be on the tough side. As shown in the Cosmic Cube teaser a few months back, Monica can fire blasts from the cube and completely shield herself from attacks. This could see her fight working in phases, with players beating her down and forcing her to retreat. While she heals, she could hide behind an impenetrable shield, with The Avengers beating down AIM bots until she returns. However, there is far more potential to this fight, especially if Crystal Dynamics leans into the Cosmic Cube’s strongest abilities.

A Tough Mission That Gives Marvel’s Avengers More Replayability

While Marvel’s Avengers players can expect to battle several tough AIM bots on their way to Monica, the fight itself has the potential to be fresh on every visit. With the most iconic use of the Cosmic Cube being its reality-warping, Monica could use the item to change the arena every time players face off with her. Players could find platforms that were not there on their previous visit, while the actual settings could be changed to one of Marvel’s Avengers’ different regions. With the ability to warp reality around her, there are no limits as to what Monica’s fight could look like.

This could extend to enemy types as well, with Monica using the cube to spawn in a random selection of the Marvel’s Avengers’ AIM bots. This would give the fight a bit more flavor on repeat runs, with players not knowing exactly what to expect from the encounter. Seeing Monica use the environment to her advantage would also be interesting, as she could spawn snipers up on platforms and position ranged enemies behind tankier foes. Seeing a boss interact with their surroundings in a meaningful way could be a lot of fun, and it fits with the logic of the Cosmic Cube.

With much of Marvel’s Avengers’ content feeling repetitive, having Monica Rappaccini’s fight be randomized in certain ways could be a breath of fresh air. Aside from taking full advantage of the Cosmic Cube, players could have access to a replayable mission that feels somewhat fresh. This would make it a great place to grind Marvel's Avengers' new Champion levels, and Crystal Dynamics could further incentivize the mission by adding some exclusive rewards. Giving players a Cosmic Cube artifact after they take out Monica a certain number of times would be incredible, and it could fire the same blasts that she uses during the boss fight. If the content is fun enough, this grind could be worthwhile, as it gives players a reason to stick with the game.

Ending Marvel’s Avengers Current Story Arc And Possibly Finishing Off AIM

However, the biggest thing to be excited about from the Villain Sector is that it could mark the end of AIM. Players have consistently voiced their concerns with Marvel’s Avengers, and chief among these is the lack of enemy factions to fight. Alongside proper supervillains, players want more regular enemies to beat down that are not tied to AIM. Fortunately, the Cosmic Cube mission could serve as Monica’s last stand. Once beaten, the story could finally move on, with AIM’s Scientist Supreme dethroned. From there, the sky is the limit for a new main villain, as the comics provide several potential candidates.

With Black Panther’s War for Wakanda Expansion set to introduce a new faction led by Klaw, the possibility of the current story arc ending with this mission becomes greater. After a full year of content focused on AIM, players are more than ready to move on to the rest of the Marvel universe, engaging in bigger battles than the ones they are having now. This mission could provide that, giving the arc a proper ending once Monica Rappaccini is defeated. With the Cosmic Cube done away with, and the Kree Invasion seemingly stopped, fans could finally see what is next for the game.

At the same time, it is possible that the Monica The Avengers beat down is a clone, even if it would be frustrating to see this trick used again. With Marvel’s Avengers approaching a competitive 2022, the game needs to win players back and appeal to a new audience. Finishing off AIM would be a great start toward a new future, while keeping them involved would show that there is no hope for real change. While fans can expect to see the end of AIM or a prolonging of the current story, only the former would prove satisfying. With so much potential for a fun fight and a fresh start, though, plenty of eyes should be on the next Marvel’s Avengers Villain Sector.

Marvel’s Avengers is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
