Since the game's launch in 2020, Crystal Dynamics hasn't been shy about adding new costumes for players to deck out their heroes with inside Marvel's Avengers, and it appears more colorful options may be on the way, according to a new leak. The leak highlights the team's consummate leader, Captain America, in a throwback-style costume which looks like it was taken right off the comic book page. It may also be a sign of things to come for the rest of the titular team as Crystal Dynamics appears to be experimenting further with costume designs.

The list of costumes currently available to outfit the heroes in Marvel's Avengers already runs the proverbial gamut of original creations and looks based on the heroes' histories across comics, TV, and films. The Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially, has been a consistent source of inspiration for Crystal Dynamics as the studio has taken from the franchise's 12-year history. There's no shortage of iconic looks lifted straight from the comics, whether it be Iron Man's early red and gold armor or Gladiator Hulk from the original Planet Hulk storyline.

However, the aforementioned leak offers a glimpse at what could be one of the most eye-catching suits Crystal Dynamics has designed to date. The images posted to Reddit by user neB_G_rraC feature Captain America in a cel-shaded costume, which looks as if it was pulled right from the comic book page or one of the many late-90s Marvel cartoons, such as Spider-Man or X-Men. His shield isn't left out, either, as it is just as bright and colorful as the rest of his suit.

Cel-shaded costumes are nothing new to comic book video games, with alternate suits typically made available as either unlockable or add-on content to deck out the game's hero or heroes. The Batman: Arkham series and Sony's Spider-Man games both have their fair share of cel-shaded suits for players to earn to make the titular hero stand out from the darker, more grounded world design and color pallet. Spider-Man: Miles Morales, in particular, has one of the more unique cel-shaded suits available in the form of Miles' Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse suit, which, along with the bright colors, features a choppier animation style to match the unique animation of the 2018 film.

Given he was part of the launch roster and one of the longest-tenured members of The Avengers, it may not be surprising to many players to see Captain America receive a cel-shaded suit first. It isn't clear, though, if he could be the only one to receive one of these suits or if it would be part of a possible costume pack, akin to the recent free MCU suit pack as part of the game's two-year anniversary.

Marvel's Avengers is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
