UPDATE: Marvel's Avengers has pushed out a patch that should resolve the issue for PS5 players.

Marvel's Avengers is not unfamiliar with fans' grievances over certain design aspects that it features. The game usually takes the brunt of its complaints over Marvel's Avengers' saturation of MCU-inspired cosmetics, but its live-service functionality has also caused issues in the past, and fans are still unhappy about its lack of news pertaining to a new content roadmap.

Marvel's Avengers' latest patch recently launched after a brief delay. Unfortunately, players had reportedly started to receive crashes on PS5 the same day; whether the patch was correlated as the cause or not is undetermined, but Marvel's Avengers promised to troubleshoot the issue and keep players up to date. Now, Marvel's Avengers has stated that the crashes on PS5 are still being looked at, and that a potential fix will be implemented. In the meantime, Marvel's Avengers has offered an absurd recommendation for players.

Marvel's Avengers has taken to its official socials to impart upon players a temporary "workaround" for this issue. However, this solution comes with an egregious caveat. Instead of telling players to wait for an eventual fix, the developer has suggested that players erase their campaign progress and start fresh in the meantime. This "workaround" seems fairly drastic and is entirely unfavorable to players who are currently in the middle of the Avengers Initiative campaign.

Reasons why this was the decided-upon solution is anyone's estimate, but it perhaps has something to do with the fix that Marvel's Avengers has implemented. Either way, fans are justifiably unhappy that they are being told to wipe their progress as a means to fix an error on the development side. It is likely in players' best interests to wait until Marvel's Avengers announces that the fix has gone live and has properly solved the issue in order to salvage their Avengers Initiative progress.

Nonetheless, this does not bode well for Marvel's Avengers' already questionable goodwill. The newest patch followed by this misstep is an unfortunate series of events for the developer, who has continued to express how the community and UX are of its utmost concern for Marvel's Avengers' future. But with these challenges to its live-service networking, Marvel's Avengers will need to yet again pick up the pieces and demonstrate that it can provide a reliable and worthwhile experience.

With any luck, the PS5 crash issue will be resolved soon so that players do not feel inclined to erase their campaign progress, as that would surely diminish the time they have already spent playing through it. It is unclear whether these crashes appear in the game's multiplayer lobbies or only in Marvel's Avengers' Avengers Initiative campaign, but hopefully fans can wait for the developer's legitimate fix in the meantime.

Marvel’s Avengers is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
