The recent leak from Insomniac encompassed tons of information on upcoming games from the developer, including concept art and even early gameplay footage from Marvel's Wolverine. While this unfortunate leak contains a massive amount of unreleased details about plans for future game releases from Insomniac, interested fans can get a glimpse of what gameplay for Marvel's Wolverine might look like. From the brief clips of in-development gameplay shown in these leaks, it seems like the game might be drawing inspiration from another popular PlayStation title for one area of Wolverine's combat.

This major leak is the result of a ransomware cyberattack that resulted in the group responsible for the hack gaining access to sensitive information from the Spider-Man and Ratchet and Clank developer. A large chunk of the information gained is now leaking onto the internet and has been spread around social media for fans to dig into. While some fans are analyzing the leaked release plans that include a Venom game and future X-Men games after Wolverine, others have noted that the gameplay footage contains what appears to be combat where Logan is fighting while riding a motorcycle, which bears a resemblance to a segment from Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

With Marvel's Wolverine reportedly having a very dark tone, Insomniac could go even darker in the sequel with a bizarre storyline from the comics.

Wolverine Could Take a Page from Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s Book for its Motorcycle Combat

Wolverine's motorcycle is almost as iconic as his signature Adamantium claws, so it's no surprise to see that Insomniac plans to include the bike in their upcoming title. However, balancing combat while driving a motorcycle without making either feel too clunky can be tricky to pull off from a gameplay perspective, so Insomniac will need to finely tune this mechanic for it to be successful. Luckily, there is already a great example for the developer to follow in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which already demonstrates how a PlayStation title could handle motorcycle combat.

The brief gameplay clips shown in the leaked footage are clearly test builds of the game, but they do highlight what Insomniac plans for motorcycle combat in Wolverine to look like. In it, Logan can be seen swiping with his claws at a nearby enemy, who appears to be a Hand ninja also riding a motorcycle. While there could end up being more features of this combat in the final build of the game, it appears that Wolverine will utilize simplistic combat mechanics when atop his motorcycle to shift the player's focus to the driving aspect of these segments.

How Final Fantasy 7 Remake Nails Motorcycle Combat

Final Fantasy 7 Remake takes a similar approach to its combat atop a motorcycle, which may have been the inspiration for Insomniac's version of the feature. During the motorcycle chase through Midgar in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, players have to fight off incoming Shinra soldiers by getting close to them and swinging Cloud's sword while avoiding obstacles as they maneuver the bike. This combat works well in Final Fantasy 7 Remake because Cloud is fighting with the long reach of a sword, so Wolverine will need to find a way to make reaching enemies with his claws feel natural without forcing players to get too close to them.

The motorcycle chase segment of Final Fantasy 7 Remake ends with a battle against Roche, the motorcycle-crazed SOLDIER 3rd Class sent to stop Cloud and Avalanche. Wolverine should also take inspiration from th game and pit Logan against a boss like Sabretooth on the back of a bike for an epic showcase of this mechanic. There is still a lot of time for Insomniac to flesh out the motorcycle combat of Wolverine given the early state the leaked gameplay was in, but following in the footsteps of Final Fantasy 7 Remake could help Insomniac develop this feature to its fullest.
