Marvel has always had a pretty prominent spot in the gaming industry, dating all the way back to 1982's Spider-Man on the Atari 2600. While the quality of its games has varied pretty heavily over the decades, Marvel has released a plethora of games in that timespan, and it seems as though that continued effort is finally paying off. Over the last few years, Marvel has been knocking it out of the park when it comes to AAA video game releases. Though Marvel's Avengers wasn't great, Spider-Man, Miles Morales, and Guardians of the Galaxy easily made up for it, and each paved the way for an even brighter future for Marvel games.

Even though Marvel currently only has one video game set to release in 2023, that one release is one of the most anticipated games of the year. If that wasn't enough on its own, Marvel also has plenty of projects on the horizon that fans could get a better look at in 2023, even if they won't get their hands on them for another year or so.

Everything Revealed About Marvel's Spider-Man 2 So Far

Announced back in September 2021, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has been double-confirmed for a 2023 release, with a recent Sony blog post even narrowing down that release date to Fall 2023. Following the events of the first game and its sequel spinoff Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 once again follows an older Peter Parker as he faces off against some of his most iconic villains. This time around, it seems as though he'll be joining forces with Miles to fend off Kraven the Hunter and Venom. However, this version of Venom may be a little different from other versions fans are used to, with the post-credits of the first game and Miles Morales heavily implying that Harry Osborn will be at the heart of the Symbiote suit.

Aside from these details, not much else is really known about Marvel's Spider-Man 2. But that hasn't stopped rampant fan speculation, with fans guessing that the game will let players control both Miles and Peter, and that the Symbiote suit will be unlockable in-game. While these mechanics haven't been officially revealed, they don't seem out of the realm of possibility, and Insomniac is sure to want to up the sequel's stakes in every way imaginable.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is also set to be a PS5 exclusive, which is disappointing news for those trapped on previous-gen consoles. However, this does mean that Insomniac can really push the technical boundaries of the PS5, and deliver an experience that's somehow even more visually impressive than its stellar predecessors. Fans should expect full DualSense incorporation, along with lightning-fast loading times and buttery-smooth framerates.

Marvel's Midnight Suns Is Set to Get DLC in Early 2023

Releasing towards the end of last year, Marvel's Midnight Suns received a solid amount of critical acclaim, and though some fans were skeptical before launch, the game seems to have won over the vast majority in the end. After receiving a slew of delays, Midnight Suns only ended up releasing for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC in December, with its past-gen versions slated for 2023. Along with those versions, players will always be treated to some DLC for Midnight Suns in 2023, adding four new characters to the game.

Originally teased by Nolan North's Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool, Marvel's Midnight Suns is set to receive four new characters via DLC in "early 2023." Along with Deadpool, Midnight Suns' DLC is also set to add Storm, Morbius, and Venom to the roster, with each seemingly coming in their own respective DLC packs. It's currently unknown just how much content these DLC packs will be adding. It's unclear whether it'll just be another hero for the roster with their own set of unique moves, or if it'll also include a unique set of missions to use them in. According to a recent cryptic New Year's Tweet, the first Deadpool DLC pack could launch at the start of February, with the character tweeting out that he'll see players in "a month."

Fans Could See More From Insomniac's Wolverine in 2023

Insomniac is developing a PS5-exclusive Wolverine game.

During the same PlayStation showcase that announced Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Insomniac also revealed that it was working on a Wolverine game. No release date was given at the time of announcement, and nothing has been seen from the game since. With Insomniac presumably still in deep development of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, it seems likely that fans won't get to see anything meaningful from Marvel's Wolverine for quite some time. That being said, it's always possible that Insomniac could release another short teaser for the game, simply showing another brief cinematic of the titular character and teasing Insomniac's version of the world. However, if any teasers were to come out, it likely wouldn't be until the end of the year, after Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has come out.

Other Marvel Projects That Are on the Horizon

Back during September's D23 Expo, Skydance's long-rumored Marvel game was finally officially announced. Though it hasn't got an official title yet, Skydance's Marvel game was revealed in a brief cinematic trailer, confirming the game's general setting and its characters. Set during an alternate timeline of World War 2, this Marvel title will see players control Captain America and Black Panther (and potentially Bucky and a member of the Dora Milaje) as they push back the Red Skull's Hydra army. It's currently unknown whether the game will be single-player or multiplayer, what type of gameplay it'll have, or when it will release, though hopefully fans will see more from it in 2023.

Later on in September of last year, Marvel also announced that a brand new Iron Man game was in the works. Being developed by EA Motive, the studio behind Star Wars: Squadrons and the upcoming Dead Space Remake, this new Iron Man game is set to be a single-player focused action-adventure game. No other details have been given about the title just yet, but with any luck, fans could see a glimpse of it at some point this year.
