Marvel's Spider-Man can be beaten relatively quickly if the primary focus is placed on the main story, but the side activities featured throughout will double the playtime needed. There are countless storylines housed in this title, but experiencing them all will require some extra effort.

Marvel's Spider-Man's The City That Never Sleeps DLC allows for even more gameplay after the events of the main story, with each entry featuring a respectable duration and a variety of side activities. It adds approximately 6 hours of story to the game, but completionists will have to explore a bit more to experience everything it has to offer.

Completing Marvel's Spider-Man

The Main Story

Mister Negative in Spider-Man

Marvel's Spider-Man pits Peter Parker up against the terrifying Mister Negative, a powerful foe who calls upon negative energy to achieve his sinister goals. He was once a nobleman who sought to help those in need, but his lust for power led him down a dark path of villainy. It will take roughly 17 hours of gameplay to see Martin Li's story to an end, but only if the player devotes themselves entirely to the main story and disregards all side activities.

Peter will make several shocking discoveries throughout his adventures, but uncovering the fractured mind of his mentor, Otto Octavius, will add a few more hours to the game's story. Defeating Martin Li is made out to be the sole objective of the plot, but Otto's questionable goals will force Peter to don his spider suit for a little while longer.

The Side Activities

Marvel's Spider-Man is home to a unique variety of side activities for the player to complete. The further the narrative progresses, the more optional events become available. If ignored, the post-game will see the entire map covered in quest markers, so completionists may want to complete these side missions as they become available.

Each mission has a unique premise with most of them requiring different feats to be performed. Some will task Peter with swinging between skyscrapers whilst in pursuit of a pigeon, while others will see him attempting to stop his lesser present enemies from wreaking havoc on New York. Like most open-world games, there are also numerous collectibles to be found. These tasks can all be completed with relative ease, but fully completing each side mission will require an extra 17 hours of gameplay on top of the lengthy main story.

The City That Never Sleeps DLC

The City That Never Sleeps DLC takes place several months after the main events of the base game and can only be completed once the credits have rolled. The Maggia family is attempting to take advantage of Wilson Fisk's absence by replacing him, but Spider-Man refuses to allow any more harm to come to his city.

Each entry in The City That Never Sleeps takes roughly 2 hours to complete, but the side activities will require an extra 3 overall. Defeating Hammerhead and all the new DLC villains will bring the total playtime of the DLC up to 9 hours.

Platinuming The Game

Aside from the side activities and collectibles, there are a few less obvious tasks that need to be completed to truly beat the game. The trophy list will document these required feats, but they can prove to be quite challenging without an appropriate guide. There is a total of 5 trophies that fall into this category.

With Great Power...

Obtaining this trophy requires Peter to visit his uncle's grave in the top left corner of the map. Once there, the grave can be interacted with, allowing him to finally pay his respects. This task can be completed in a matter of seconds, depending on where Peter is on the map.

Hero For Higher

The player will likely stumble upon this trophy accidentally while exploring New York, as it requires Peter to ascend the tallest building in the city. The Avengers Tower is located in the Upper East Side of the map, slightly to the east of Central Park. Once the structure has been climbed, a notification will appear informing the player of their accomplishment.

Sticky And Tricky

Like the "Hero for Higher" trophy, it is unlikely the player will complete Marvel's Spider-Man without unlocking "Sticky and Tricky." It requires Peter to perform four separate tricks in midair before reaching the ground. It can be unlocked easily by jumping from an array of different buildings, but a leap from the Avengers Tower will achieve it with finesse.

A Bit Of A Fixer-Upper

While acting as Otto's lab assistant, Peter will have the option to complete two separate optional side quests: Synthetic Tissue Substances and Neural Interface. It will take approximately 1 hour to complete all of Otto's requests, but the "Accessibility" section in the Options menu will allow the player to skip all the puzzles entirely if they wish to obtain the trophy quickly.

Hug It Out

Acquiring the "Hug it Out" trophy will task Peter with webbing ten pairs of enemies together using a trip mine. Trip mines can be upgraded during Act 2 to grant this ability, but not every player will opt to do so immediately. Though it can be a difficult trophy to achieve when there are few enemies present, the vast number of hostile foes in Enemy Bases will make it laughably easy.

Once these more subtle trophies have been unlocked, the player will receive the "Be Greater" platinum trophy to commend them for their efforts, but only if the rest of the game's objectives have been completed. Marvel's Spider-Man will take upwards of 45 hours to fully complete for a completionist and approximately 23 for a casual player.

Marvel’s Spider-Man is available on PS4 and PS5, with a PC version releasing on August 12.
