In Marvel Comics, The Daily Bugle has quite the history and many facts that even some die-hard comic readers might not even know about. The common knowledge of The Daily Bugle is that it is owned by J. Jonah Jameson, and used to spread slander about Spider-Man.

8 The Truth About Captain America’s Disappearance

Walter Jameson worked at the Daily Bugle during World War 2 as the editor, and once almost managed to succeed at taking a photograph of an unmasked Captain America. As the war progressed, Walter Jameson became the publisher of the Daily Bugle and used his power in the paper for good to publish the truth.

Walter Jameson used the Daily Bugle to expose the disappearance of Captain America, even though the United States government was denying it. The Daily Bugle was the only paper to question the government and alleged correctly that Captain America had been lost at sea.

7 Originated In The Fantastic Four

Many people associate the Daily Bugle with Spider-Man. Considering Peter Parker worked there as a photographer, and the paper spends most of its issues slandering Spider-Man on the front page. However, the Daily Bugle was established in the second issue of Fantastic Four in September 1961.

It’s somewhat poetic that the Daily Bugle was introduced to the Marvel Universe with Fantastic Four, considering they are Marvel’s first family. It’s nice to see the connective tissue in the Marvel Universe, and hopefully, more will follow when Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four is made for Phase 6.

6 Used For Propaganda

Considering that the Daily Bugle is a great publication known across the Marvel Universe, it’s no surprise that the Daily Bugle saw itself in alternate realities. Involving the X-Men and the Avengers, the House of M storyline affected the Marvel Universe and saw the Daily Bugle in a new reality.

The alternate reality of the Daily Bugle served as a propaganda tool for the ruling mutants, which held an iron grip over society. The Daily Bugle was not allowed to print stories that would make the Mutant rulers seem unfavorable.

5 Rich History

Fans of Marvel Comics may be pleased to know the dedication of the writers, considering a rich history has been built surrounding the origin of the Daily Bugle. The Daily Bugle is like its own character, considering it has a history and origin of its own, much like one of the many heroes and villains.

The Daily Bugle was established way back in 1898, and before J. Jonah Jameson purchased the newspaper, it was going through a crisis, and struggling to be financially stable. Thanks to J. Jonah Jameson, the Daily Bugle thrived into a successful business.

4 Supporter Of Mutants

The hatred for Spider-Man has long endured in the publication of the Daily Bugle. Many would believe that because of this common fact that the Daily Bugle has it out for every costumed hero, but that is not entirely the truth.

The Daily Bugle is rather tolerant of those heroes that are not Spider-Man. During the questioning of Mutant rights, the Daily Bugle took the side of Mutants. Due to what some undesirables considered controversial, criminals and hate groups targeted the Daily Bugle.

3 J. Jonah Jameson Inc.

Whilst in high school, J. Jonah Jameson began a journalistic career as a reporter for the Daily Bugle. After inheriting many assets, Jameson purchased the Daily Bugle and the Goodman Building itself that housed the Daily Bugle.

Under the banner of J. Jonah Jameson Inc., the Daily Bugle spent its time publishing not only newspaper tabloids, but reviving magazines like NOW Magazine and the now-defunct Woman Magazine.

2 Anti-Spider-Man

marvel comics(2)

It’s no secret that the Daily Bugle holds a strong hatred for Spider-Man. The iconic friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is constantly slandered by the Daily Bugle. Not due to the crew of the newspaper hating Spidey, but for the publisher himself, J. Jonah Jameson.

The Anti-Spider-Man rhetoric involves smearing the name of Spider-Man, constantly. Even Peter Parker has to endure such a thing, as he supplies the photographs of himself as Spider-Man for money. However, with moderation, the Editor-In-Chief, Robbie Robertson tries to quell the Spider-Man hatred.

1 Once Owned By Dexter Bennett

In the comics, things change rather constantly to keep things realistic. Not everything can remain the same, especially when dealing with characters that are decades old. One of the more recent changes to the Daily Bugle comes from its revamped style as DB! This rebrand is due to the new owner after a buyout from Dexter Bennett. Bennett has run the Daily Bugle into the ground with DB having a new scandalous angle.

After the Daily Bugle once again fell on hard times, it was bought out by Dexter Bennett. Due to the new direction of the company, Peter Parker, Robbie Robertson, and other characters left DB and moved to a new paper with integrity, Front Line.
