Both Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales did a great job establishing their respective protagonists. Marvel’s Spider-Man features Peter Parker as its only web-slinging hero, but it is also an origin story for Miles being bitten while Peter struggles with keeping both his personal and crime-fighting lives balanced. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a direct continuation of Miles’ story, giving him a strong first outing as a lone Spider-Man in Harlem while Peter is with Mary Jane in Symkaria. It will be interesting to see how Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 connects loose threads for each protagonist.

The alien symbiote is obviously intended to play a huge role in the sequel, and with its inclusion comes some assumptions about what will ensue. For example, it is assumed that the symbiote will make its way to one or both of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s titular Spider-Men, and if Peter is the chosen host that could lead him down an appalling path that would be difficult to return from.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s Symbiote Could Turn Its Protagonists Against Each Other

The natural assumption is that Peter Parker will become a temporary host for the symbiote, at which time he will become an antagonist that players must fight as Miles Morales. Many fans hope that the symbiote is a wearable suit in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and it is possible that could be true before Peter loses control.

Peter becoming an emotionally manipulated antagonist would drive a wedge between him and Miles, and with two Spider-Men in New York City it would only make sense for the other to help free Peter from the symbiote. The boss fight in this instance would be excellent and offer fans an opportunity to see how powerful a symbiote-clad Spider-Man is, especially with Peter’s experience.

Of course, Miles could be the one who ends up wearing the symbiote. But as of right now, it seems Peter is the likely candidate given he has more to potentially lose if the symbiote wholly consumes him in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Might Have a Solemn Ending for Peter Parker

That is not to say that Miles Morales has no close family or friends. Miles has his mother, Rio, and his best friend, Ganke, both of whom are in on his secret and were put through a tumultuous time in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. If either of them were affected by Miles wearing the symbiote that would be devastating, especially after the loss of his father Jefferson Davis. Still, the losses that Peter Parker has suffered could put him in an even more desperate or lonely situation.

Peter has lost his Uncle Ben and Aunt May, and it would seem like the last emotional connection he has left is Mary Jane Watson. Marvel’s Spider-Man teases a substantial next step in Peter and MJ’s relationship, and if that is cut short due to Peter’s melodramatic transition, it could mean he is left all by himself at the end.

Further, depending on how awful Peter’s actions are while donning the parasitic symbiote, he could choose to finally retire the blue-and-red tights and allow Miles to subsume all Spider-Man duties. This would not be a pleasant narrative, but it would be an intriguing end to Peter’s story and open up new opportunities with other Spider-People such as Gwen Stacy, Spider-Woman, or Silk.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to release in fall 2023 for PS5.
