Marvel Snap is always bringing in new cards that introduce new abilities to change things up every Season. In the Rise of the Phoenix Season Pass, several cards were added to the game, and players were able to purchase them from the Token Shop or collect them while leveling up their Collection Level.

One new card that made its debut in Rise of the Phoenix, was Jean Grey. Jean Grey, one of the most powerful X-Men, is a brilliant 3-Cost card with an equal 3 Power. Jean Grey also has the Ongoing ability that states that players can only play their first card each turn at her location, as long as the action is possible.

The Best Jean Grey Deck in Marvel Snap

the grey surfer deck

Seeing as Jean Grey has one of the more unique Ongoing abilities in the game, she pairs well with other control cards to infuriate opponents during a match of Marvel Snap. This 3-Cost card with 3 Power most notably obtains a bonus when paired with Silver Surfer, which automatically makes a Surfer deck a great choice to use with Jean Grey.

This deck, the Grey Surfer deck is incredible to work with and has already made rounds throughout the Marvel Snap community. This deck utilizes control cards, to limit the number of options that opponents have, as well as create large amounts of power thanks to 3-Cost cards and Silver Surfer.

Instantly, players will notice the great amount of 3-Cost cards in this Grey Surfer deck. That's because each 3-Cost card benefits from Silver Surfer's On Reveal ability. Most of these 3-Cost cards are cards that interfere with the enemy's choice of location, also known as control cards within the community. There are a couple of other cards in this deck that aren't 3-Cost cards, yet still, help incredibly with controlling the three locations.

In this Grey Surfer deck, players will want to get out Goose and Jean Grey as soon as possible to hold down a couple of locations. Then, players can strategically use different 3-Cost cards to counter the opponent's cards, such as Shadow King countering Venom, or Killmonger countering a Bounce or Kazoo deck. To get a better idea of what each card is capable of in a match, here's what each one does:

  • Nova: When destroyed, gives other friendly cards +1 Power.
  • Goose: Players can only play cards that cost 1-3 Energy here.
  • Brood: Add two Broodlings to this location with the same Power.
  • Rogue: Steal an enemy's Ongoing ability.
  • Silver Surfer: Give other friendly 3-Cost cards +2 Power.
  • Storm: Flood this location. (Last turn cards can be played there).
  • Jean Grey: Players have to play their first card here each turn, if possible.
  • Juggernaut: Move any enemy cards that were played at this location in the same turn.
  • Killmonger: Destroy all 1-Cost cards.
  • Shadow King: Set all cards here to their base Power.
  • Polaris: Move an opposing 1 or 2-Cost card to this location.
  • Sera: Cards in the player's hand cost 1 Energy less.

The Best Cards to Use in a Jean Grey Deck

silver surfer and shadow king cards

Cards that help fortify locations in the player's favor work best with Jean Grey, as they control where the opponent plays their cards. Cards that generally boost other cards' Power also work great, as Jea Grey can help add Power to the location that is assured the opponent plays on. Because of this, the best cards to combo with Jean Grey are Goose, Silver Surfer, and Mojo.

Goose helps control the location by disregarding 4-5 Cost cards on said location. Silver Surfer boosts 3-Cost cards' Power, in which Jean Grey gains from. Mojo, one of the more unique cards, gains a boost in Power when both players have a full location wherever Mojo is played, which is almost expected as Jean Grey forced opponents to play cards there.

The Best Counters for Jean Grey

professor x and enchantress cards

Jean Grey is not only an Ongoing card but falls into the same category as other control-type cards like Professor X. These cards, though mighty, have some explicit weaknesses.

Seeing as Jean Grey is an Ongoing card and forces players to play their first card at her location, players can use Enchantress, Rogue, or any Guardians of the Galaxy card to counter Jean Grey's location. Fans can also use control cards to counter Jean Grey as well, to make it not possible to play their first card at Jean's location each turn. These cards would be cards like Professor X and Spider-Man.
