As a buff-oriented On Reveal card, Sage works best in a Silver Surfer and Wong deck. Players can create this lineup by combining Sage, Wong, and Silver Surfer with Angela, Ironheart, Brood, Nightcrawler, Odin, Kitty Pryde, Ravonna Renslayer, Hope Summers, and Iron Man.

How to Play Sage

Sage gains +2 Power for each card in her lane that has a unique Power. For example, if the lane has eight cards—four on each side—with different Powers, she earns 14 Power (two points for each card other than her own). When playing Sage, focus on the element of surprise. A good strategy is to lure the opponent into concentrating in one spot. This increases the chance of Sage entering that lane and getting the highest possible buff.

How to Counter Sage

The most effective counter to Sage is Leech. After his recent buff, Leech can remove Sage’s abilities before she’s played, turning her into a 0-Power, useless card. Cosmo is another strong counter since she can nullify Sage’s On Reveal effect. Additionally, since Sage often grows beyond ten Power, a Shang-Chi tech deck is a reliable way to defeat her.

Is Sage Worth It?

Sage is a mediocre card that can be skipped. Despite her high potential, she is not the win condition players might expect. In the current META, where many players use Leech decks, Sage is often nullified before she even hits the board. However, as a surprise element, Sage can change the tide and catch opponents off guard. Whether to unlock her depends on the player’s preference, as she doesn’t seem to make a lasting impact on the metagame.
