Marvel Snap is continually entertaining and with new seasons to always look forward to that doesn’t seem to end any time soon. It’s true that Marvel Snap has been looked down upon for predatory microtransaction practices, not unlike many other mobile games, but it has still been a great source of casual fun for avid Marvel and deck-builder fans alike. Marvel Snap’s new card additions are always interesting, even if it can be relatively difficult trying to earn them without pulling a wallet out. That said, one of the game’s glaring blemishes has not yet been resolved and concerns the premise of new variant skins for particular cards.

Many fans might enjoy progressing through Marvel Snap’s collection tree for new mystery variants in hopes that they procure a card they’ve wished for. But if fans are happy to spend their hard-earned resources, they can choose from any of the six variants featured in the shop’s daily rotation. This is where microtransactions can play a favorable part in collecting any cards that players might feel like they are unable to otherwise. Regardless, not all cards have associable variants, at least not for every card that it produces as part of its gimmick. Because that’s a massive part of what makes the game fun and Conquest has now launched as a competitive PvP mode in Marvel Snap, this issue should be addressed as soon as possible.

Marvel Snap Still Needs Secondary Variants for Cards Like Squirrel Girl and Mister Sinister

Marvel Snap cards like Bucky Barnes produce another card—Winter Soldier is produced when Bucky is destroyed, for instance. Likewise, Squirrel Girl’s On Reveal ability produces a Squirrel card on each other location, Mysterio’s On Reveal ability produces illusory cards on each other location, and so on.

But there are unfortunately no variant skins still for any of these byproduct cards, called tokens. Players will see variants for cards like Doctor Doom, but while the main card receives a fun variant, its token Doombots still maintain their same default appearance. This can be highly disappointing if players enjoy a variant that spawns default cards and creates a dysfunctional pairing with incoherent visuals.

Cards shuffling down into lower series tiers can keep the mobile hit engaging on its own, but variant skins are inarguably a huge part of why some fans might be painstakingly waiting for daily challenges to repopulate every day. Now that there are multiple resource pools to draw from as well, it can often feel underwhelming if the same variants end up appearing in a daily rotation while new cards haven’t been earned elsewhere yet. There is a ton of incredible art from across comic book media for characters such as Winter Soldier, and therefore it is a shame that only his mild-mannered and boyish counterpart receives exciting variants.

To be fair, this concern has already been addressed in a Marvel Snap Q&A forum from Second Dinner developers that has carried over from the game’s official Discord server. Here, it was said that solving this predicament would be a matter of inefficiency in the developer’s small team, but that it will be explored later on.

This was said a while ago, though, and therefore the issue of such cards receiving variants is still highly unlikely for the foreseeable future. Of course, Second Dinner probably has its hands full with new seasons and balances it needs to prepare for and implement well, but while some cards are missing variants it feels like a part of the fun of deck-building and variant collecting is overlooked and could even be another lucrative means of having fans spend a little more to see card skins that they would be happy to have.
