Thor, one of the most famous Marvel characters, also remains one of the best cards in Marvel Snap for almost any sort of deck. Thor's card costs 3 Energy and withholds 4 Power, making him one of the best 3-Cost characters in the entire game with an already good amount of Power at his side. However, Thor is able to take his Power much further with the help of his trusty hammer, Mjolnir.

Thor has the On Reveal ability that shuffles the Mjolnir card into the player's deck. Mjolnir is a 0-Cost card with 0 Power and has an On Reveal ability that gives Thor +6 Power. Essentially, Thor becomes a 10-Power card; 10 Power for 3 Energy.

The Best Deck For Thor In Marvel Snap

Thor, being a great 3-Cost hero with the ability to shuffle a 0-Cost Mjolnir in the player's deck, works incredibly well with Lockjaw. This Thorjaw deck brings a fantastic combination of abilities and Power in a match of Marvel Snap.

The Thorjaw deck focuses on Thor gaining Power with the support of Mjolnir, while also ensuring that there is enough Power supporting a location without Thor. What makes this deck significant is that each card has enough efficient synergy with one another to where victory is almost always guaranteed.

There are a lot of different characters in this Thorjaw deck, with various capacities that correspond with specific strategies. For example, High Evolutionary grants cards (that don't have any abilities) a newfound power. With High Evolutionary, Wasp, Misty Knight, and Hulk all gain access to different types of capabilities. These cards are then able to push this deck past its initial limits.

Since Lockjaw, who leads the way for "bounce" decks in Marvel Snap, swaps out a card with another from the player's deck, it's a good idea to include heroes/villains that the player won't mind having swapped out. These two that are in the Thorjaw deck, known as enablers in the community, are Wasp and Misty Knight.

Using these "enablers," and others, with Lockjaw help heighten the chances of pulling one of the powerhouse characters from the deck, such as Giganto or Hulk. Thor is, ideally, used in a location where Lockjaw is not currently, so the God of Thunder can help win a match. With the help of Jane Foster, who has the On Reveal ability to pull all the 0-Cost cards from the player's deck, Thor can gain an instant +6 Power thanks to Mjolnir. Jane Foster also makes sure that Wasp can be played on Lockjaw. To get a better understanding of how this deck works, here's what each card does:

  • Wasp: No Ability. (Wasp + High Evolutionary: On Reveal - Afflict a random enemy card here with -1 Power.)
  • Misty Knight: No Ability. (Misty Knight + High Evolutionary: When the player ends a turn with unspent Energy, give a random friendly card +1 Power.)
  • Black Widow: On Reveal - Place a Widow's Bite card in the opponent's hand.
  • Lockjaw: After a friendly card is played here, swap it with another in the player's deck.
  • Wave: On Reveal - Next turn, all cards cost 4 Energy.
  • Thor: On Reveal - Shuffle Mjolnir into the player's deck.
  • High Evolutionary: At the start of the game, all friendly cards with no ability have their 'potential unlocked.'
  • Jane Foster, The Mighty Thor: Draw all cards that cost 0 Energy from the player's deck.
  • Odin: On Reveal - Activate the On Reveal abilities of other friendly cards here.
  • Hulk: No Ability. (Hulk + High Evolutionary: When you end a turn with unspent Energy, +2 Power.)
  • Giganto: Can only be played on the left location.
  • The Infinaut: If the player played a card last turn, The Infinaut cannot be played.

The Best Cards to Use in a Thor Deck

Jane Foster Mighty Thor and Odin cards

Since Thor isn't a complex card in the vast collection of Marvel-themed options, he works well in most decks that players can create. As a 3-Cost card with the immediate potential to reach up to 10-Power, Thor is a great choice with any combination of cards that help access Mjolnir or otherwise boosts Thor's Power. With that in mind, the best cards to use with Thor are Jane Foster's Mighty Thor, Odin, Silver Surfer, and Wong.

Jane Foster helps players immediately access Mjolnir. Odin activates Mjolnir twice, giving Thor +12 Power, and Wong is able to make any On Reveal abilities happen twice at his location. Since Thor is a 3-Cost card, Silver Surfer grants Thor +2 Power when played.

The Best Counters for Thor

Shang-Chi and Professor X cards

Thor isn't reliant on extremely specific strategies so that players may benefit from his card, but rather a grand overall superhero to use in general. That said, countering Thor can be a challenge, especially when players don't know when and where Mjolnir will be played. To counter Thor, players' best bets are on cards that control locations, as well as Shang-Chi, who can destroy an overpowered Thor.

Professor X can lock down a location, preventing Thor from being played there. Cosmo is another outstanding control card, that has the capacity to stop On Reveal powers from activating at Cosmo's location. With Cosmo and Daredevil or Kang the Conqueror, players can hope to locate Mjolnir and stop it from boosting Thor's Power. And finally, Shang-Chi can simply be used to destroy Thor once he has gained Mjolnir's support, as Thor will have 10 Power. Since Shang-Chi destroys cards that have 9 or more Power, it's an easy counter for any opposing Thor who wields the famous Mjolnir.
