As a 4-7, Proxima Midnight must be played as a discard backup card. You cannot expect her to become a win condition because she’s more of an “initiative gainer” than an end-game surprise attack. If you want to make the most of her, drop Morbius before her. This guarantees an early buff combo you could follow up with bigger options, such as Apocalypse.

Best Combos for Proxima:

  • Corvus Glaive hitting Swarm and Proxima: This combination gives one lane seven Power and gives you a free copy of Swarm.
  • Modok targeting Proxima before Hela: A dream scenario is discarding your hand with Modok while Proxima is there. Later, you could play Hela to resurrect removed cards and dominate the board.
  • Moon Knight, Proxima, Helicarrier, Modok: Imagine you discard Proxima and Helicarrier with Moon Knight. This will grant seven Power and fill your hand with six random cards you can discard with Modok, only for Hela to bring them back to life the next round.

How to Counter Proxima Midnight

Proxima is often discarded while she’s still in your opponent’s hand. So, it would only make sense to prepare for her auto-triggered landing. For instance, you could clog the enemy’s lowest-Power lane with Storm or Professor X. Alternatively, you could use Doctor Octopus as a tech option to close critical lanes, preventing Proxima from jumping to them.

Is Proxima Midnight Worth It?

You must get Proxima Midnight only if you’re an avid discard player. Outside this archetype, Proxima has little to no flexible synergies. Moreover, her effect is quite replaceable, bringing no drastic change to the metagame. If you don’t have the chance to unlock Proxima through Spotlight Keys, you are better off without getting her.
