After a long wait, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have got their first look at the much-awaited series Secret Invasion. It brings Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury back to Earth, in what seems to be a thrilling ride as he prepares to go to war. The action-packed trailer was revealed as part of Saturday’s D23 Expo, a joint panel for Lucasfilm, Marvel Studios, and 20th Century Studios.

The Secret Invasion trailer offers a look at why Fury decided to return, after having missed out on a lot of action that took place on the planet. Apart from Jackson, the trailer of the highly-anticipated Marvel series features some of the other returning cast members, including Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos, Martin Freeman’s Everett K. Ross, and Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill. The video also offers fans the first look at Emilia Clarke and Olivia Colman’s characters, which is bound to leave fans of the actors in awe of their versatility.

The trailer begins with a shot of Fury exiting the ship that he has been hanging out in space in, as was confirmed in Spider-Man: Far From Home. A conversation between Fury and Hill reveals that he has returned for a grave cause, which is “different” from all the scenarios that Hill had tried to reach out to him over the past year. Fury then approaches Don Cheadle’s Colonel James Rhodes, a.k.a War Machine, to discuss his security detail. He obviously has some concerns over the Skrull invasion, considering one of them has been impersonating Fury for quite some time now. He seemingly teams up with Talos to deal with what’s to come, and this time around, things don’t seem to be easy for the heroes to deal with.

The remaining trailer goes by in glimpses of some action sequences, explosions, and first looks at the new characters joining the MCU, portrayed by Clarke, Colman, and Kingsley Ben-Adir. While the characters aren’t identified, it’s still interesting to see them interact with Fury. It becomes obvious that nobody can be trusted, including Fury at some points, considering the trailer ends with what could possibly be the Skrull imposter who has been acting as the S.H.I.E.L.D. Director. It seems like Fury is the "the last person standing between them and what they really want."

The upcoming series is said to be based on the comics of the same name, which looked into how the Skrull Empire was built. The Secret Invasion comics showcased several Skrull agents impersonating Marvel heroes and villains, and helping their cause spread all over the world. The MCU adaptation is said to take on some creative liberties, not following the plot in the comics entirely. It remains to be seen how much of the comics will translate into the series, but it seems like the show will be packed with a lot of action and mystery.

Secret Invasion premieres on Disney Plus in Spring 2023.
