The Marvel Cinematic Universe has become the most financially successful film franchise of all time. It introduced the world to some of Marvel's best superheroes and villains that had previously been considered secondary characters. This includes several powerful women who have bolstered both the superhero roster and the rogues' gallery.

Some of these women have paved the way for the introduction of even more powerful female characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As the MCU continues to grow, more powerful women may be added, but the current roster is not to be underestimated as they have pushed this franchise to success.

9 Kamala Khan

Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan.

Kamala Khan was introduced to the MCU in the 2022 Disney+ limited series, Ms. Marvel. She is a teenage girl who is a huge fan of Captain Marvel, but gains powers of her own thanks to a bangle passed down through her family. She then has to learn how to harness the new powers.

Kamala loves her family and culture as much as she loves superheroes, even if her dreams cause her to clash with her mother's traditional views. She becomes powerful enough to join Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau in the upcoming film, The Marvels.

8 Yelena Bolova

Florence Pugh as Yelena Bolova.

Yelena Bolova does not have traditional superpowers like many of the other women on this list, but she survived the brainwashing involved with the Red Room to become a Black Widow assassin. She is a ruthless killer, especially in her hunt for Hawkeye, who she believed was responsible for the death of Natasha Romanoff.

Yelena has a biting wit and is more than capable of handling herself in any fight. She will be featured in the upcoming Thunderbolts film, which focuses on a group of anti-heroes rather than true heroes.

7 Valkyrie

Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie.

Valkyrie is the only survivor from an elite group of warriors in Asgard. They train and fight with weapons and lead a battle against the evil goddess, Hela. Valkyrie is the only survivor of the battle and joins Thor, Loki and Bruce Banner in a later battle that ends with the destruction of Asgard.

She takes over as leader of New Asgard while Thor battle depression after Thanos snaps away half of life. In addition to being a cunning warrior, she is also an effective leader. Valkyrie also joins Thor, Jane Foster and others in their quest to stop Gorr the Godbutcher.

6 Natasha Romanoff

Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff.

The original Black Widow assassin in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Natasha Romanoff is almost unstoppable. She aids Iron Man in his efforts to stop Hammer Tech. She serves as a spy for Nick Fury and a formidable companion for Captain America. She is able to calm the Hulk when he has turned into a rage monster.

While she is human and has no superpowers to speak of, her abilities from her training make her a threat in almost every situation. She also shows the strength of self-sacrifice when she and Hawkeye are trying to get the Soul Stone. She even gives up her own life, so that Clint can return to his family. That's a different kind of power.

5 Gamora

Zoe Saldana as Gamora

Gamora survived a brutal upbringing before encountering some of the most evil villains of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She was raised as a daughter of Thanos which improved her fighting skills and strength, especially in weapons and combat.

After joining the Guardians of the Galaxy, she survived battles with both Ronan the Accuser and Ego the Living Planet before being killed by Thanos in a trade for the Soul Stone. Another version of Gamora returned in Avengers: Endgame before joining her new, found family with the Ravagers.

4 Monica Rambeau

Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau

One of the three women to make up the team in the upcoming The Marvels movie, Monica Rambeau has been connected to power throughout her entire time in the MCU. She is the daughter of Maria Rambeau who founded S.W.O.R.D. When she returned after the blip, she entered the town of West View that had been taken over by Wanda Maximoff.

Pushing through the Hex alters Monica's DNA, allowing her to become the hero Photon. In addition to her appearances in The Marvels and WandaVision, an alternate multiverse version of her appeared in the Illuminati scene of Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

3 Hela

Cate Blachett as Hela

Even though she's villainous, Hela is still one of the strongest women in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. She is the daughter of Odin and has many of the same powers as the rest of the Asgardians. Hela is able to destroy Thor's hammer and even raised the dead.

The only way Thor, Loki, Valkyrie, and others were able to stop Hela was to bring about Ragnarök and destroy Asgard. Hela's strength is clear when it takes the destruction of an entire realm to stop her.

2 Carol Danvers

Brie Larson as Carol Danvers

Captain Marvel is one of two female superheroes in the Infinity Saga who may be overpowered. She is introduced in Captain Marvel where she gains her powers after being exposed to the tesseract. It gave her super speed, strength and durability.

She could stand toe to toe with Thanos as long as he didn't have any Infinity stones, and she could easily destroy Kree ships. She spends most of the events of Avengers: Endgame in space, because her presence on Earth would have made defeating Thanos too easy.

1 Wanda Maximoff

Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff

Wanda Maximoff is arguably the strongest woman in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Mind Stone awakened her magical powers. From there, she is able to hold her own against Thanos, create an entire alternate reality inside the Hex and jump through dimensions trying to find the children she had in Westview.

Her powers of magic and manipulation are so strong she is a valuable ally or a formidable foe depending on her motivations and if she is siding with the Avengers or evil. Wanda is never to be underestimated, especially after she becomes the Scarlet Witch.
