Mario Strikers: Battle League releases later this week and the Nintendo Switch eShop was updated ahead of the game’s launch. The updated Nintendo Switch eShop listing reveals a key detail pertaining to digital downloads of Mario Strikers: Battle League.

Mario Strikers: Battle League is the latest action-packed title from Next Level Games and harkens back to a franchise absent from Nintendo consoles since the Nintendo Wii. In fact, the upcoming soccer game is the second Nintendo Switch project from Next Level Games. The first Nintendo Switch game by the Vancouver-based studio was Luigi’s Mansion 3, which released on October 31, 2019. Next Level Games would be acquired entirely by Nintendo on March 1, 2022.

The Nintendo Switch eShop reveals the file size of Mario Strikers: Battle League. The new game weighs in at roughly 1.8 GB. In comparison, previous Mario sports titles such as Mario Tennis Aces and Mario Golf: Super Rush launched with file sizes of 2 GB and 4.2 GB respectively. Considering the Nintendo Switch’s internal storage size of 32 GB, Mario Strikers: Battle League takes up a meager amount of storage space.

The file size of Mario Strikers: Battle League will grow as future updates add new content and features to the game. New updates could also include the addition of new venues and modes. Datamines suggest 10 new Mario Strikers: Battle League DLC characters will be added for free over the course of its post-launch support. Nintendo did not share any specific details other than plans to release DLC after launch.

A small file size for Mario Strikers: Battle League ensures players use a minimal amount of internal storage to play the latest game from Nintendo. During travel, small file sizes allow players to take multiple digital Nintendo Switch games on the go without hassle. Nintendo is known for optimizing its first party games and utilizing as little file space as possible without compromising on quality.

However, such a small file size may be indicative of a lack of content. In the past, many criticized Nintendo for the lack of character selection and content in the Mario Tennis Aces and Mario Golf: Super Rush titles for Nintendo Switch. Updates will fortunately add new characters and content into Mario Strikers: Battle League for free soon. As Nintendo learned with many Nintendo Switch games, post-launch support is an important factor in keeping an active player base.

Mario Strikers: Battle League will launch on June 10 for Nintendo Switch.
