'Mario Golf: World Tour' Getting Season Pass

Nintendo has just recently began offering downloadable content to the masses, the largest attempts arriving in the form of New Super Luigi U and Pikmin 3 levels, but now the Big N will be pushing DLC for its 3DS in a way it never has before. The house of Mario has announced that it will be bringing a season pass (a first for the company) to Mario Golf: World Tour, including a number of new courses and characters for avid golf fans.

Since the premise of add-ons in gaming are usually met with scepticism by the masses, Nintendo took the liberty of confirming that Mario Golf: World Tour will launch with a very respectable number of courses (10 courses featuring an accumulative total of 126 holes to be exact), which is on par with previous entries in the Mario Golf series. That said, this new content will expand significantly on the available courses and golfers.

How substantial is the content? Well, it'll add a further 108 holes and four characters for those set on picking up World Tour's season pass. The pass includes three downloadable course packages, each package also come with a new character, and it'll be available for purchase via 'Toad’s Booth' in-game. Of course, players are also free to purchase the content separately as well.

The first pack, launching on May 2nd alongside the actual game, is called the 'Mushroom Pack' and it comes with two 18-hole courses and a playable Toadette. The second round of DLC, known as the 'Flower Pack', will hit later that same month, and golfers can look forward to two more 18-hole courses and a playable Nabbit. Last, but not least, the 'Star Pack' will be comprised of the same number of holes as the previous DLC and a playable Rosalina.

Each of the three bundles can be purchased individually for $5.99 apiece when they eventually hit the Nintendo eShop, but season pass holders can score all of the content for a discounted $14.99. That's a grand total of $3 in savings, but Nintendo has thrown in another bonus for season pass holders. Anyone that picks up the DLC in bulk will score a playable Golden Mario golfer. The prestigious character even has a Golden Flower shot that will award users with coins for every for every yard the ball travels.

Those that don't wish to drop $15 on a season pass for Mario Golf: World Tour, however, can wait until all of the add-on content drops, because at that point Golden Mario will become available for download — although Nintendo has yet to specify whether or not he'll be a free addition.

Releasing a season pass for Mario Golf could be a sign of things to come for future games from the Big N (namely Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros.), and the content itself is well priced considering it adds 108 new holes and four characters for $14.99.
