Once players have beaten Luigi and Donkey Kong in the Pro Speed Golf challenge at the Wildweather Woods course, they'll finally gain access to Mario Golf: Super Rush's Bowser Highlands area. Before they can make their way up to the peak to take on the villainous Snow King though, they'll first need to clear the first nine holes of the course with one of the party scoring par or below on each and every hole. Wario and Waluigi will join players for the first eight and one of them will always score par or better on the first six making it a somewhat pointless challenge.

For the seventh and eighth holes, however, Wario and Waluigi tend to score bogeys or higher, meaning that players will need to be making par or better on the last three holes in order to progress to the boss. Thankfully, if players do fail they won't need to start from the very first hole and will instead pick up from the last hole that they played. After completing the ninth in five or fewer strokes, players will gain access to Bowser's castle and will finally find themselves face to face with the evil Snow King.

Phase 1 Of The Snow King Battle

Phase 1 Of The Snow King Battle in Mario Golf: Super Rush

After a short cut-scene, the first phase of the boss battle will begin. Before players can deal any damage to the Snow King, though, they'll first need to use the Bob-ombs around the center of the arena to hit the red and green crystals that are powering his force field. As with the lightning orbs in the Sacred Flamebeast boss battle, players will simply need to approach a Bob-omb, press the A button and then treat it like a normal shot.

Unfortunately, getting hit while near a Bob-omb will cause it to explode and they can take a while to reappear, so it's best to wait until the moment immediately after one of the Snow King's targeted attacks before approaching them and then take the shot as quickly as possible. Once both crystals have been hit once, the force field will disappear and players will be able to hit the Snow King with three or four Bob-ombs before the second phase of the battle begins.

It's definitely worth keeping an eye on the Body Temp meter in the top left hand corner of the screen throughout not only this phase, but the entirety of the battle, as if it reaches zero the player will instantly lose. It will fall naturally over time, so speed is once again imperative, but dodging attacks is also incredibly important too. For those having trouble, it might be worth unlocking the Heat Attire and Snow Shoes from the Bowser Highlands clubhouse to make life a little easier.

Phase 2 Of The Snow King Battle

Phase 2 Of The Snow King Battle in Mario Golf: Super Rush

The second phase of the Snow King battle begins a little like the first, with players needing to hit Bob-ombs at the glowing crystals to bring down the boss' force field. This time, however, there are four crystals that need to be hit and the Snow King's attacks are far more relentless too. As a result, choosing the right time to approach the Bomb-ombs is far more important than in the previous phase.

Players should be able to see where the active crystals are by following the giant beams of light that connect them to the boss, but they'll also show up on the player's mini map in the top left hand corner of the screen. A driver works best for hitting the crystals that are far away, while the low trajectory of shots hot with a 3 wood makes them ideal for crystals that are a little closer to the player's position.

Once the Snow King's force field is down, he'll begin to throw giant snow balls at the player. Those players who are fast enough will be able to hit the boss with a Bob-omb while the snowball is still growing in size above his head. For everybody else, the safer option is to wait until he throws the snowball, dodge using the special dash and then approach the Bob-ombs. After one or two hits, the final phase will begin.

Phase 3 Of The Snow King Battle

At first glance, the third phase of the Snow King battle seems a lot like the first two, but players will quickly release that the crystals are here to stay this time around. Hitting them or the Snow King with Bob-ombs will have absolutely no effect, so players will need to adopt a different approach if they're to have any hope of finishing off the battle.

Instead of targeting the crystals, players should wait until the Snow King throws a snow ball and then dodge out of the way using a special dash. If done correctly, the snow ball will hit the ground and create a raised platform similar to the ones in the last of the Three Great Trials. Just like last time, players will be able to stand on the platform and press the A button to set up one final devastating attack.

Phase 3 Of The Snow King Battle in Mario Golf: Super Rush (2)

Once players are in position, the Snow King will launch a giant spiky blue ball at the player and they'll need to use the circular timing meter that's used in Lob and Duff shots in order to activate the Power of Flame. Achieving Nice or Perfect timing is all that it takes and will lead to the player's Mii golfer returning the Snow King's attack and bringing the battle to an emphatic end.

With the boss now taken care of, players can sit back and enjoy the game's final cut-scene before the end credits begin to play. Once they've finished, players will get a notification to let them know that they can now use their Mii golfer in the game's Battle Golf mode. It's also possible to return to the Golf Adventure mode and replay some of the previous challenges, but, for all intents and purposes, defeating the Snow King marks the end of proceedings.
