Mario Golf: Super Rush releases in less than two weeks, so many Nintendo Switch owners already know whether they'll be picking the game up. As such, Nintendo took this opportunity to talk about its post-launch plans for Mario Golf: Super Rush. Fans will be excited to hear that Nintendo has multiple free updates in development that will be released over time.
Nintendo wasn't willing to go into detail about what will be included with Mario Golf: Super Rush's free updates just yet, though it seems as though a Super Mario Odyssey course is in the pipeline. All it was willing to say is that the updates will include both free courses to play through, as well as free characters to play as. In other words, it's just the kind of content that Mario Golf players will want.
It bears repeating that the most exciting part of today's announcement is that this post-launch content will be released for free. Not only does that mean that more Mario Golf: Super Rush players will get this content, but it could also mean Nintendo doesn't have any plans for post-launch premium DLC.
While the confirmation of free updates for Mario Golf: Super Rush was the most exciting news from today's Nintendo Direct for the Nintendo Switch, it wasn't the focus of the game's time during the broadcast. Instead, Nintendo used the trailer time to showcase many of Mario Golf: Super Rush's modes and features.
Game Modes in Mario Golf: Super Rush offers a range of different experiences. Standard Mode is the basic golf mode that players would expect in any golf game, featuring Mushroom Kingdom courses where players aim for the lowest possible score. Speed Golf is an exciting, fast-paced new mode with special abilities and special shots where players strive to reach the hole first. Battle Golf mixes Speed Golf's unique golf combat with an arena. Lastly, Golf Adventure is a campaign mode using the player's Mii featuring challenges and a basic story.
Those hoping to get a closer look at Mario Golf: Super Rush and potentially hear about some of Nintendo's plans for free content have one more opportunity as part of E3 2021. Nintendo confirmed that the game will be featured as part of its E3 2021 Nintendo Treehouse showcase that will follow its Nintendo Direct.
