Super Mario Galaxy is one of the most beloved Super Mario titles in existence. The classic Wii platformer has a 97 on Metacritic and is one of the highest-rated video games in the 3D Super Mario series. While there are many who are clamoring for a follow-up to 2017's Super Mario Odyssey on the Switch, others have been asking for a final game to finish up the trilogy for the Galaxy series.

Super Mario fans are very creative and passionate. Recently one fan on Reddit created a beautiful piece of box art to illustrate what Super Mario Galaxy 3 could look like if it were to be announced.

Reddit user u/WhispyGaming posted an image on r/Mario of their cover art for Super Mario Galaxy 3. The box art imagines what the game could look like if Nintendo were to release the game on the Nintendo Switch, something that many fans would love. With Super Mario Galaxy coming inside of the very well-received Super Mario 3D All-Stars, there are plenty of Switch owners who have now gotten a true taste of Mario in space and want more.

The turnaround between the original Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel was fairly quick; just about two and a half years. So it has been just about a decade since players launched Mario through gravity-defying obstacle course planets. Nintendo is always innovating and trying new things, so it may simply be that far too much time has passed for a true sequel.

Nintendo may be working on a follow-up to Super Mario Odyssey instead, or something entirely new. With Bowser's Fury (the experience that is a game within the newly released Super Mario 3D Wold + Bowser's Fury), Nintendo tested out ideas for a true open-world Mario game. So it could be that Nintendo's next Mario adventure will be something akin to that.
