Things in James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC Universe are still as uncertain as ever, with many unsure whether their favorite stars from recent films will stick around once the dust settles. However, a particular fan favorite may be safe in this new wild superhero landscape.

Now that Gunn recently finished his time behind Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy movies, he's all in on the DC stuff. Notable releases under DC lately have still been under the banner of the old guard, with The Flash and Blue Beetle being in production since before Gunn and Safran took over as heads of DC's movie and TV department. But while they aren't in any hurry to shut down future possibilities for movies like Blue Beetle, they're still focused more on bringing their new vision to the studio. However, there still might be room for some returning favorites.

A short but straightforward tweet from noted industry insider Daniel RPK suggests Margot Robbie will stick around in the new DCU to remain in her beloved role as sometimes-hero-sometimes-villain-always-chaotic Harley Quinn. "I can confirm Margot Robbie will be back as Harley Quinn in the DCU," the tweet claims, along with some helpful hashtags. There's been no official confirmation of RPK's claim, so this is little more than a rumor. But this wouldn't be the first time this source has broken some exciting news before it was formally revealed.

Interestingly, this isn't the only time in recent memory a claim has come up regarding Robbie's future in the DCU. Only a few months ago, Gunn called out a tweet about Robbie for spreading false information, and he seemed pretty passionate about it. The director has been known to shut down untrue rumors regarding his projects, so it's not surprising he did so. But maybe that means he'll be around soon to confirm whether or not this one has any meat to it.

At the moment, it's unclear what role Robbie's Harley Quinn would play in the DCU. The character hasn't been mentioned concerning future projects, so anything could happen. However, even Robbie has voiced support for seeing a Harley and Poison Ivy romance on the big screen, with many fans backing her up. Given the almost universally positive response to the Harley Quinn series on Max, which prominently features the pairing, it wouldn't be the worst idea. Robbie has already appeared in the role 3 times, with David Ayer's original 2016 Suicide Squad followed by Cathy Yan's delightful Birds of Prey in 2020 and Gunn's own The Suicide Squad in 2021. So fans already know what wonderful chaos to expect when she's involved.

Robbie has proven to be a hugely enjoyable presence in almost every project she joins, even regularly cracking up while filming Greta Gerwig's Barbie. So bringing her back as Harley Quinn would be a no-brainer. Still, this is only a rumor, so it's worth taking it with a hefty grain of salt.
