In the video game industry, certain months tend to stand out. Looking ahead to 2022, the first three months of the year already look quite busy, with there being plenty of big new game releases in January 2022 and plenty more scheduled for February 2022 as well. March 2022 is also shaping up to be a big month for the gaming industry, and assuming there aren't any delays, it could very well be one of the biggest months of the entire year.

As it stands, there are numerous major game releases currently scheduled to release in March 2022. Some of these games are highly-anticipated indie titles that stand a good chance at becoming critical darlings, whereas others are big budget releases or re-releases of some of the most popular games ever made. Needless to say, there is a lot for gamers to look forward to in March 2022.

March 2022 is starting things off strong with the release of Gran Turismo 7, the latest entry in Sony's critically-acclaimed PlayStation exclusive racing game franchise. Gran Turismo 7 is of particular interest for fans as it will mark the franchise's debut on Sony's next-generation PlayStation 5 console. The latest Gran Turismo games haven't earned quite the same level of praise as earlier entries, so it will be interesting to see if the new one can return the franchise to its glory days when it launches on March 4.

March 4 will also see the release of Triangle Strategy, a tactical RPG in the vein of Final Fantasy Tactics with an art style reminiscent of Ocotopath Traveler. Being developed by Square Enix as a Nintendo Switch exclusive game, the Triangle Strategy demo has largely left strategy game fans impressed and exciting to see what the final product will offer when the game launches for the Switch early next year.

The Nintendo Switch will also enjoy exclusive access to Chocobo GP come March 10, which is another game from Square Enix. Chocobo GP may have a more niche audience than some of the other big games releasing in March 2022, but racing game fans who enjoy the Final Fantasy franchise may want to give it a look.

The first major indie game release for March 2022 comes with Tunic on March 16. Tunic is inspired by classic Legend of Zelda games, albeit with a tougher difficulty than fans of that franchise may be used to. Tunic has been turning heads for years thanks to its striking art style, though it remains to be seen if the final product lives up to fans' lofty expectations. Thankfully, the wait for that question to be answered is almost over as Tunic is just a few months away from release.

Tunic and most of the other games coming out in March 2022 are brand new releases, but there are some re-releases and remasters as well. The first is Persona 4 Arena Ultimax on March 17, a re-release of the popular 2014 fighting game. For the uninitiated, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is a sequel to Persona 4 Arena, itself a spin-off of the acclaimed RPG Persona 4. It continues the Persona 4 storyline in the guise of a fighting game, so while it's definitely a different experience gameplay-wise, RPG fans who enjoy the characters of Persona 4 will want to look into it, especially if they missed out the first time around.

RPG fans have a lot to look forward to in general come March 2022, as March 18 will see the release of Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin. A rather bizarre twist on the Dark Souls formula, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is based on the very first Final Fantasy game, trading the classic turn-based combat for a Dark Souls-style action-RPG instead. Stranger of Paradise's trailers have drummed up interest thanks to the game's over-the-top story and characters, and fans will soon find out if it all lives up to the hype or not.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands Shows New Gameplay in Game Awards Trailer

A week later, gamers can check out Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. Launching March 25, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is the latest installment in Gearbox Software's Borderlands franchise. Taking inspiration from Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep DLC for Borderlands 2, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands blends classic Borderlands co-op looter-shooter gameplay with a fantasy, Dungeons & Dragons-style setting. Tiny Tina's Wonderlands should please fans of the Borderlands franchise and anyone looking for a new co-op game to play should consider it as well.

And finally, the last major new game release for March 2022 that has an actual release date is Weird West from WolfEye Studios and Devolver Digital. Originally scheduled to release in early January, Weird West's release date was recently delayed to allow the game to get some extra polish. It's an isometric action-RPG inspired by classic Fallout games that blends a Wild West setting with supernatural elements. Weird West being developed by former Dishonored developers has helped it get more attention than it may have otherwise, and it's certainly one of the more promising indie game releases launching in the early months of 2022.

While they don't have an exact release date just yet, Grand Theft Auto 5 and Grand Theft Auto Online are also big games set to release in March 2022. The next-generation ports of GTA 5 and GTA Online are aiming for release on PS5 and Xbox Series X, though what significant enhancements they are bringing to the table have yet to be revealed by Rockstar Games. Regardless, fans can expect the same high-quality Grand Theft Auto 5 single-player experience that they've been playing since 2013 as well as the latest iteration of the game's online multiplayer component, which is now getting its very own standalone release separate from the base game.

wwe 2k22 goldberg

The last major game confirmed for release in March 2022 is WWE 2K22, the latest installment in the long-running professional wrestling video game franchise. WWE 2K22 is coming after the abysmal launch of WWE 2K20, which stands as one of the lowest-rated wrestling games ever made. In response to the negative feedback, 2K Sports has given developer Visual Concepts extra time to make WWE 2K22, resulting in an overhaul of the game and hopefully a better experience overall.

These are the biggest games currently confirmed for release in March 2022, but as previously stated, plans could change. Video game release dates are shifted around all the time, but assuming these games all manage to release in March 2022 as currently planned, it will definitely be a big month for the industry and one of the biggest month for new game releases of the entire year.
