Flexible Plots in Manor Lords offer exactly what the name suggests: structures with shapes beyond the typical square or rectangle boxes. Examples include Marketplaces, Burgage Plots, and even Farmland. While constructing them can be enjoyable, there are a few issues present in this game mechanic.

At times, Flexible Plots may fail to function properly, and there are several reasons why this can occur. It might be due to something you overlooked, or it could simply be an unintended bug. It's important to remember that Manor Lords was released in an Early Access state, meaning you should be expecting your fair share of bugs and issues. This guide will detail how to use Flexible Plots properly in Manor Lords, and how to work around any unfortunate bugs.

How To Build Flexible Plots

Constructing Flexible Plots couldn’t be simpler. All you have to do is use the four points to define the structure’s borders. These points can create any shape with four vertices, allowing for various designs, including squares for those who prefer blocky towns.

An interesting aspect of Flexible Plots is their automatic snapping to roads. This feature can be both a blessing and a curse, depending on if it’s working as expected or not.

When working as intended, Flexible Plots efficiently fill the gaps between roads and structures, ensuring no land goes to waste. However, there are times when the game will indicate that your flexible plot cannot be built without telling you why.

  • One of the reasons a flexible plot will refuse to work is that there is something in the path. This might occur if the selected area for the plot contains supplies or other objects.
  • Another possibility is that the plot intersects with a road, as you obviously can't construct a building on top of a road.

If the issue arises from the latter scenario, you have the option to disable the snap-to-roads feature. Nevertheless, this will significantly limit the shape possibilities for your structures.

At the beginning of the game, when no structures are built yet, all your resources and supplies will be on the ground. It's crucial to double-check that you aren’t constructing a structure over these supplies. If you encounter them, assign a family to move them. Heavier items like timber may require both a family and an oxen for relocation.

Additionally, relocating or demolishing an existing structure will leave some supplies on the ground as well.

Building Plots Adjacent To Buildings & Roads

manor lords flexible plot error

As mentioned earlier, Flexible Plots in Manor Lords snap onto roads but also onto other structures like buildings. However, not all structures in the game are flexible — some are static. This can pose a problem when a flexible plot borders a static structure such as a windmill, as the game may refuse to build the plot in such cases. The construction of structures will also fail if you try to build them over the existing structures.

Check Road Alignment

Roads are crucial for the progress and survival of your town. Roads are extremely flexible in Manor Lords, and rightfully so. You can't find any town that only has straight roads. Pathways in your town can be both curved and straight, giving them a natural and realistic feel.

When creating a road, ensure that intersections and endpoints line up perfectly. Even a slight misalignment can make constructing flexible structures near it a challenging task, so it's essential to zoom in and double-check for accuracy. If you end up with a messy road, you have the option to remove it. However, keep in mind that you'll need to remove the entire road, not just a portion of it.
