The shark role-playing game Maneater from Tripwire Interactive has been popular on the Xbox One since its release this May. As numerous games receive updates for next-generation consoles coming this November, Maneater is also coming to the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Recently, the developer for the game shared more information on how it will be enhanced for the Xbox Series X/S.

Once the Xbox Series X releases, Maneater will be getting an optimization update that will reportedly improve key elements. Xbox Wire published a Q&A with Maneater Product Director David Amata yesterday, in which he shared more behind the scenes details on the game's optimization.

When asked what excited him about the game's optimization on the Xbox Series X, Amata said the strength of the new console's solid-state drive (SSD) was the biggest highlight. SSDs are external hard drives used to store more data from other devices when they're near full occupancy. The new Xbox Series X SSD comes in handy with easing the extra storage of games, apps, and everything else installed on the console. Normally it's an accessory, but the Xbox Series X will come with its own built-in SSD.

Amata said the most exciting part of working with the Xbox Series X's SSD is the speed it provides. He explains that the benefits of developing Maneater with SSD are that the game can have better visuals, quicker load times, and maximize draw distance. The new hardware also allows Tripwire to realize its vision for the game by incorporating ray-tracing for better water simulation, more vibrant lighting, and other enhancements. Not only that, but the game will apparently run at 4K HDR and 60 FPS on the Xbox Series X.

Amata said developing Maneater for the Xbox Series X was a "relatively seamless experience," as Tripwire's development process and tools were compatible with the new hardware. This allowed the developer to get the game running quickly. Maneater will be a Smart Delivery game on Xbox Series X, which will transfer and update the experience for old and new players alike.

When asked what the Xbox Series X brings to table in terms of development, Amata said the new console generation "raises the bar" for future game development projects. The Q&A wraps up with Amata emphasizing how Tripwire is excited to bring gamers the upgraded Maneater on Xbox Series X.

Maneater is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with versions for Xbox Series S/X and PS5 launching alongside the respective consoles.
