8 Giant Squid

Although the Giant Squid is not seen in its entirety, depictions of its size are left on walls, and one of its tentacles will even greet the player as the fifth-year student embarks on his first flight with a broom. The Giant Squid is a magical creature, one of extreme size, but completely unknown proportions. What is known about the Giant Squid, is that it is friendly.

The Giant Squid usually lazes around the lake surrounding Hogwarts and acts almost like a lifeguard for the students and professors of Hogwarts. Occasionally, the Giant Squid might even engage students with games, showing how it is a welcome addition to Hogwarts.

7 Hebridean Black

Dragons are no oddity to the wizarding world and have been seen and used before. However, dragons exist in many different species and types, and perhaps one of the most feared, the Hebridean Black, only appears in Hogwarts Legacy.

The player is tasked with freeing such a dangerous and magical beast, and it is no easy task, as the Hebridean Black is an aggressive dragon type, and extremely territorial. Their huge size, fire-breathing capabilities, and hunger see the Hebridean Black dragon given a Ministry of Magic Classification of XXXXX, which makes them impossible to train, and deadly to all witches and wizards.

6 Dugbog

corrupted dugbog in hogwarts legacy

The marsh-dwelling and somewhat territorial magical beast that players will have to fight in Hogwarts Legacy was only heard of and mentioned across the films and books. Hogwarts Legacy is the first time players get to witness and interact with Dugbogs, although that might not exactly be a good thing, considering their hostile nature.

Dugbogs will easily kill people and animals alike, and their aggressive behavior is a mystery for the player and their Hufflepuff ally Poppy Sweeting to explore. Dugbogs have hardened back, and weakness in their stomach. It's best to equip the best headwear in Hogwarts Legacy to tackle these beasts.

5 Jobberknoll

This small, blue, and speckled bird resembles what one would expect from a bluejay. The magic of a Jobberknoll comes from the intrigue of its being, as it will never make noise throughout its entire life, up until the moment of death. When a Jobberknoll dies, it releases a long scream, consisting of every word it has ever heard, but backward, a true magically tragic thing.

The Jobberknoll is known for its beautiful blue feathers, small size, and the insect-based diet it consumes. This makes the Jobberknoll somewhat friendly, and the player should not fear this pretty blue bird.

4 Snidget

baby golden snidget

As Poppy Sweeting and the player-created character continue through their journey to halt the progress and cruelty of poachers, they will find themselves rescuing Snidgets. These adorable and plump birds are mentioned in other media but have never been seen in the detail that Hogwarts Legacy presents them.

Snidgets are noted for being completely round, with a thin and long beak and golden feathers. The most notable aspect of a Snidget is how its speed and agility resemble that of a Golden Snitch, which isn’t a coincidence, as this endangered bird was used in the early years of Quidditch, before a more cruelty-free alternative was found.

3 Thornback

thornback enemy spider

Spiders seem to crawl through every nook and cranny in Hogwarts and the surrounding areas of the castle. However, one species of spider that lived in the Forbidden Forrest before the films was a Thornback. These spiders were large and entirely aggressive, and Harry Potter should consider himself lucky that this species seems to be extinct.

The Thornback was huge and lurked within the many caves and dungeons hidden through the Forbidden Forest. Players will want the best robes and cloaks in Hogwarts Legacy to tackle this monster. They are notable for their glowing red eyes and the fact that they have red skin, which encases them like armor.

2 Giant Purple Toad

This large and magical species of toad is best touched with the best gloves in Hogwarts Legacy, as their warts can be infectious on the skin. Giant Purple Toads hop around the lakes of Hogwarts and can be caught by the player to be placed into their beast sanctuary. They are not hostile, which is a nice change of pace considering the Dugbogs personality.

There’s a price on the Giant Purple Toad, as their warts and bodies are sold for a large amount. Giant Purple Toads do not like their warts being removed and will seek the safety of a lonely box to hide in if bothered, so it's best to let them roam free.

1 Kneazle

kneazle in the beast sanctuary

The only Kneazle seen in the films is a half-Kneazle, which was Crookshanks, the pet of Hermione Granger. Kneazles have not been seen in their true form, and that may be because they don’t exactly want to spend time around humans, due to their sheer independence, and high level of intelligence. This polite pet will surely have the player seeking the best neckwear in Hogwarts Legacy for fancy fashion.

Kneazles are magical felines, with Pure Kneazles appearing as a mix between a lynx and a housecat. Kneazles are a great source of friendship, as they have a natural ability to detect those that are hiding something. Kneazles can be aggressive to those not worthy of their time, granting them an XXX classification from the Ministry of Magic.

Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. PS4 and Xbox One ports are scheduled to release on April 4. The Nintendo Switch version is arriving on July 25, 2023.
