Magic: The Gathering just released its most recent list of banned and restricted cards, and this time it is targeting a specific deck type heavily. Players using Omnath, Locus of Creation may need to adjust their strategies for any upcoming Magic events a bit, as that card and some of the cards frequently used alongside him are now banned or restricted in most game modes.

As a competitive card game, it's important for Magic: The Gathering to have many options for players to choose from. If one deck is too powerful or outright better than others, it's only a matter of time before a majority of players start building that deck. That's exactly what happened in Grand Finals, where 23 out of 32 competitors were using Omnath decks.

The full list of banned and restricted cards is as follows. Omnath, Locus of Creation is banned in Standard and Brawl, and suspended in Historic. Lucky Clover and Escape to the Wilds are banned in Standard, while Teferi, Time Raveler and Wilderness Reclamation are banned in Historic. Finally, Burning-Tree Emissary is making a comeback, as it is now unsuspended.

All of these restrictions are effective immediately, so players may need to start adjusting their decks. Though Omnath, Locus of Creation was no doubt the main target of these restrictions, other cards used in ramp decks were affected as well. Though players may be disappointed to see a favorite card of theirs banned or suspended, it's important to keep in mind that this is all done in an effort to promote diversity among decks and playstyles, ultimately resulting in a more varied and fun experience.

Magic: The Gathering October 12th bans are in effect.
