Although Mafia 3 was divisive among critics and series' fans alike, its predecessor, Mafia 2, is often regarded by many as a cult-classic. The game saw players take on the role of Vito Scaletta, a fictional mobster operating in the 1940s, as they ascended the ranks of the Empire City underworld through a number of increasingly high-octane heists, shoot-outs, and other nefarious Mafia-related activities.

It seems the game's publisher believes the classic game might still have legs, however, with a new leak seeing a Mafia 2: Definitive Edition being rated for PlayStation 4 in Taiwan. This is yet another in a long line of leaks that claim the supposed remaster exists, with this new piece of evidence all but confirming that players will be jumping back into the shoes of Vito Scaletta very soon.

It makes sense why the game could be returning regardless, with a number of rumors pegging a potential Mafia 4 as being on the cards for 2K Games. Bringing back Mafia 2, perhaps the most well-known and well-liked game in the franchise, seems like a wise move if the company is looking to relaunch the series for the modern era.

It seems Mafia 2 is far from the only remaster currently on its way to consoles. Saints Row: The Third will supposedly debut on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the near future, while a number of major Mario remasters are supposedly coming to the Switch as well.

Mafia 2: Definitive Edition is rumored to be in development.
