Those who were hoping to see a biopic about iconic singer Madonna anytime in the near future are bound to be disappointed about some recent news surrounding the project. It turns out the "Material Girl" is going out on yet another world tour, and because of the time commitment for that and the upcoming movie, the biopic project has officially been scrapped.

The Madonna biopic was considered major enough in industry circles that big-name stars such as Florence Pugh were lining up to take a swing at the titular role. It appears that production was set to begin on the project in the coming months, but that has been upended by Madonna herself who has committed to spend her time on tour.

Variety reports that the Universal Pictures project is on "indefinite hold" in large part because the iconic singer was due to direct the picture herself. Instead, she has decided to go on a "career-spanning" world tour with stops in the United States, London, Paris, and other cities all over the globe.

The announcement of the postponement of the project, which was reportedly due to feature Ozark star Julia Garner as the uber-popular singer, came after about a week of rumors that the movie would indeed take a back seat to the musical tour. At the same time, the report said that Madonna remains dedicated to making a movie about her life at some point. The question is whether the process to work on this project will have to start all over, or will simply remain in limbo until after the tour has finished.

One reason why it would seem as though the project would have to start over would be time commitments of Garner. While she was really introduced to the world as part of the ensemble Ozark cast, she's made a name for herself playing several other iconic characters, including the main protagonist/antagonist of Netflix's Inventing Anna, Anna Sorokin.

On the other hand, considering how many big-name actresses were apparently interested in taking on the role of a younger version of Madonna, it might be the kind of part that Garner would be willing to wait around for until the project is ready to go into production. The actress is done filming scenes for Ozark and might be able to make room in her schedule in the future. Just when and how the biopic will move forward is unknown at the moment.
