Madden NFL 22 has officially been revealed. The game's release date has been uncovered, and fans have received a look at the gameplay, as well. But one of the most exciting bits of information is the cover athlete reveal. Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes will appear on the cover of Madden NFL 22 together, and one former teammate of Brady has already found a way to poke fun at him for this fact.

Madden NFL 22 has its first duo cover athletes since Madden NFL 10 when Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Fame Safety Troy Polamalu shared the cover with Arizona Cardinals-great Wide Receiver, Larry Fitzgerald. EA teased the Madden NFL 22 reveal as the "Two G.O.A.T.s" cover, as Brady is considered by many to be the best of all time, while Mahomes looks to be the heir apparent. But Brady was not always regarded as a superstar in the NFL.

Tom Brady was drafted in 2000 in the sixth round with the 199th selection overall. He was seen as a project quarterback who had a chance to be a solid backup in the NFL. Thus, with his addition to the beloved Madden NFL 2001 after he entered the NFL, he was a measly 57 overall. Additionally, he did not even have a name in the game. Tom Brady, a player who would go on to win a record 7 Super Bowl Champions, was simply known as QB NO. 12.

One of Brady's former teammates and reported good friend off the field--Julian Edelman--quickly found a reason to troll his Hall of Fame-bound quarterback when the Madden NFL 22 announcement was made. He tweeted out an image of Tom Brady's roster info from Madden NFL 2001 with the caption "You've come a long way since QB NO. 12." Edelman helped Brady win three of his Super Bowl Championships with the New England Patriots and just recently retired from the NFL.

Tom Brady's journey is remarkable. He shares the cover with Mahomes, but the path for the two has been wildly different. Mahomes joined the NFL as a highly targeted talent; a player that the Kansas City Chiefs traded up in the first round to draft. He could be one of the most physically gifted players of all time, and is certainly a quarterback to watch in Madden NFL 22. Meanwhile, Brady worked his way up the roster and is now the most respected quarterback of his era--and perhaps of all time. Either could go down as the greatest of all time, even if they had very different beginnings.

Madden NFL 22 releases on August 19 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
