While Mad Max: Fury Road creator George Miller is hard at work on one prequel to that popular reboot, it appears there might be another one on the horizon in the not-so-distant future. Dribs and drabs are still coming out about Furiosa, the prequel that is set to focus on Charlize Theron's character from Fury Road, but another prequel could focus on the early days of Max.

Miller is not confirming that another Mad Max: Fury Road movie is definitely on the horizon, but speaking to the AV Club, he said that there is at least a story that could be made into a movie in the future. However, he did caution that the story he and Nico Lathouris have put together is not yet a screenplay.

Miller went on to explain that after Fury Road, he and Lathouris sat down and mapped out a bunch of events that had happened in the lead-up to what fans saw on the big screen in Mad Max: Fury Road. This included what happened in the year before the film's story and how Max became the character audiences saw. That novel also included the story that eventually allowed them to get the backstory of Charlize Theron's Furiosa. In what Miller calls a novel, he eventually was able to come up with the Mad Max prequel that will see Anya Taylor-Joy take up the mantle of Furiosa and also see Chris Hemsworth play the villain.

Miller said that the novel the creators wrote together had a ton of other little Mad Max: Fury Road backstories, including ones for characters like the Doof Warrior who plays the guitar. "How could a blind man who all he can do is play a guitar, how does he get to survive in a wasteland where everybody is in extremist," Miller told the publication. He added that's why he had to come up with these backstories for even minor characters so they could all fit together.

Of course, while they were making the backstories of all of those side characters, Miller was also pencilling in what Max himself was doing while the world was falling apart and then reshaping itself into what audiences saw in Fury Road. Whether or not this second prequel will actually be made is still a question without an answer. Whether Tom Hardy would be willing to return to Mad Max's role is still unknown.

Mad Max: Fury Road is available to stream on HBO Max.
