John Krasinski's A Quiet Place looks to be adding a notable star to the horrific Paramount universe. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star Lupita Nyong'o looks to be in final negotiations to star in A Quiet Place: Day One. Michael Sarnoski will direct the film, which draws its inspiration from an original idea by Krasinski.

The Paramount film will serve as a spinoff to 2018's A Quiet Place and 2020's A Quiet Place: Part II, both written and directed by Krasinski. A Quiet Place: Day One will be a brand-new installment to the horror franchise but will focus on the events before the Krasinski films. A Quiet Place is set in a post-apocalyptic world and centers around an isolated family forced to live in silence while hiding from malicious monsters with impeccable hearing abilities.

As reported by Deadline, Nyong'o looks to star in A Quiet Place: Day One in a currently undisclosed role. Not much information about the project's narrative layout has surfaced, as Paramount looks to be keeping details tightly under wraps. The Academy Award-winning actress is no complete stranger to the horror genre, having starred in director Jordan Peele's Us. Nyong'o has yet to comment on the potential casting as she prepares for the theatrical release of Marvel Studios' newest Black Panther installment.

While A Quiet Place: Day One takes place before the events of the original two films, Krasinski is developing a third Quiet Place film that will continue with the progression of the original story. The highly-anticipated film looks to hit theaters in 2025, with casting decisions remaining unknown. Krasinski starred alongside Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe in the original film. Fans will remember that Krasinski's character tragically passed in A Quiet Place, but there is a slight possibility that he and Blunt could reprise their roles alongside Nyong'o in the upcoming prequel spinoff.

Sarnoski will direct the upcoming Paramount film off his successful outing with 2021's Pig, which starred Nicolas Cage. The film earned seventy-one nominations during the 2021 award circuit and won an impressive thirty-six. A Quiet Place: Day One will be the first time Krasinski does not direct a film in the franchise, so it will be interesting to see what Sarnoski can do with the idea. Nyong'o will appear next week in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, reprising her role as Nakia. The upcoming Marvel Studios film looks to challenge the box office performance of Paramount's Top Gun: Maverick.

A Quiet Place: Day One will hit theaters on March 8, 2024.
