The Kaito Files DLC for Lost Judgment releases in just under a week. Anyone who owns the ultimate edition of Lost Judgment will get this DLC for free, but it can also be purchased separately for $30. While Takayuki Yagami is the series’ protagonist, Masaharu Kaito is a fan-favorite supporting character who will be playable for the first time in this expansion.

Lost Judgment's Kaito has two unique fighting styles, Bruiser and Tank, and SEGA had earlier released a new trailer showcasing the Bruiser style. While this fighting style shares similarities with Kiryu’s Beast and Brawler techniques from Yakuza 0, Tank will probably be completely different from previous games. Kaito also has access to Primal Focus abilities that help him investigate crime scenes, and SEGA has now revealed a new trailer that highlights these skills.

The video features Kaito using three categories of Primal Focus abilities based on his senses of sight, smell, and sound. Primal Eye will let him observe abnormalities, and Kaito uses Primal Nose to sense a strange smell coming from his office. Kaito can then hear a buzzing sound from a computer in an abandoned building using Primal Ear. The extremely short trailer doesn’t reveal much and only serves as a glimpse at the possible investigation sequences in The Kaito Files DLC for Lost Judgement.

Kaito is an ex-Yakuza, and it'll be interesting to see how developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio differentiates his moveset from other characters in the series. It may be too similar to Kiryu’s fighting styles, but the Yakuza games have a versatile combat system, and fans can always switch to the Tank mode for some variety.

In addition to the combat, the Judgment series features several gameplay mechanics designed around investigating crime scenes and tailing targets. Yagami is exceptionally skilled at disguising himself, opening locks, and taking discrete pictures of suspects. Kaito is perhaps known as the muscle behind the operation, but it’s great to see him get new abilities that fit his character.

The story of this DLC revolves around Kaito’s past, specifically his search for an ex named Mikiko. He runs into a teenager who claims to be his son, and they both set out to find the truth behind her disappearance. Kaito’s past as a Yakuza will probably play a key role, and fans can hope that Lost Judgement's The Kaito Files offers the same intensity and swagger found in the mainline series.

Lost Judgment The Kaito Files DLC releases on March 28 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
