Lost Ark tells just enough of a story to explain why players are doing what they're doing. Lost Ark's story isn't likely to win any awards, but it at least establishes a foundation for all the high-fantasy action that takes place.

While exploring Arkesia as one of Lost Ark's classes, players will be presented with several choices. Most involve whether to save a rival or let them perish. However, there is one choice that seems to carry some real weight in the direction of the story. This crucial choice comes during the Glorious Wall quest. The player and their allies are closing in on the nefarious Scheritt and are decimating his troops that guard Luterra Castle. Upon reaching the throne room, Scheritt will make an offer that may catch players off guard. They can choose to betray their friends and align with the demonic army. But which is the right choice?

Resist

Lost Ark Sorceress render title

If the player chooses to resist Scheritt, the story will continue along the expected trajectory and a fight will ensue. There's no using the Song of Escape here.

Swear Fealty

Lost Ark character

If the player instead chooses to swear fealty to Scheritt, one would expect a starkly different outcome. Instead, it's the same option as choosing to resist, but with extra steps. The character will drop to a knee in servitude as Scheritt approaches, only to quickly stand and attack the villain, catching him off guard.

Lost Ark has several mock choices like this that make absolutely no impact on the story. It makes one wonder why they were included if there is ultimately no point. If both options result in the same outcome, they shouldn't have been included as it completely negates any player agency that was trying to be established. Much like deciding whether to sell Lost Ark's unused gear or dismantle it, the result is pretty much the same but changes how many steps it took to arrive at the outcome.

No matter which choices a player makes in Lost Ark, there is an almost overwhelming amount of content to be enjoyed. Lost Ark was initially available in South Korea, Russia, and Japan in 2018 before Smilegate and Amazon decided to bring the hit action MMO to the Americas and Europe. With nearly four years of content hitting new audiences at launch, there is a lot to take in and enjoy, including small moments like these in the story.

Lost Ark is available now on PC.
