Upon starting Lords of the Fallen for the first time, players must choose a class to begin the game. Each class has its own unique abilities, weapons, armor, and consumables.

Besides the usual nine available starting classes, there are four more classes that players can unlock along the way in Lords of the Fallen, which are Dark Crusader, Lord, Putrid Child, and Radiant Purifier. These hidden classes are only obtained once players complete certain steps. However, do note that lampbearers cannot change to the unlocked hidden class by respec as they must start from scratch to use it.
