How magic schools and spells work in Lords of the Fallen can seem a bit tricky at first, particularly with how magic connects to the game's stats. However, once players know what each of the game's three magic schools entails, magic can be highly satisfying to learn and discover.

There are two stats in Lords of the Fallen connected to magic scaling: Radiance and Inferno. Inferno stats are needed to cast Rhogar magic, which is all about pyromancy, and, unsurprisingly, Radiance is necessary for casting Radiant magic. Both also give players added benefits, like gaining additional mana and wielding more powerful catalysts, a kind of ranged weapon used to cast magic. Players should add points to Inferno or Radiance depending on what types of spells they want to use.

In contrast, Umbral magic utilizes Radiance and Inferno magic, allowing players to use both schools of magic, depending on what type of build they might have in mind. It's also worth mentioning some enemies may be resistant to certain types of magic, so it's up to players to mix up their strategies and see what works best as they unlock and discover more spells in the world.

There are three core schools of magic in Lords of the Fallen relating to different Gods within the game's story and lore: Rhogar, Radiance, and Umbral magic. Each school of magic represents a different style and type of magic and possesses a unique type of catalyst to wield it. Each magic school allows for a different kind of playstyle and offers range of spells to learn.

While some abilities depend on the players' choice of starting class in Lords of the Fallen, players can freely learn different types of magic as they scale up their abilities. There are also additional secondary magic types to discover that players can imbue weapons and ammunition with, such as poison and frost.

Rhogar Magic

Rhogar or Inferno magic belongs to the magic of the God of Chaos, Adyr. It focuses on fire spells, like casting fireballs, delivering flame-thrower-style attacks, and even summoning demonic-type fire dogs to help, to describe a few types of spells. As Rhogar magic relies upon Inferno stats, it requires an Inferno Catalyst.

It includes a mixture of healing, buff, and attack abilities, such as lightning-style attack strikes and spells focused on protection. While there are many more types of Radiance spells to learn, it's necessary to find and use a Radiance Catalyst to perform Radiant magic.

Umbral Magic

Lastly, Umbral magic is the magic of the Goddess governing the Umbral Realm, so it focuses on wielding the magic of the dead or Umbral world, but players can wield it in both realms. For instance, Umbral magic can include various types of explosive projectiles, plus a means of boosting existing weapons with additional Umbral Magic. Of course, there are numerous more Umbral spells that players can learn, but performing Umbral magic requires an Umbral Catalyst to use it.

Lords of the Fallen is now available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
