Umbral Scourings are a type of currency in Lords of the Fallen that are mainly used for purchasing special weapons and armor. However, unlike Vigor or Deralium nuggets, these are incredibly hard to find, and the few sources players find out in the world give very little total Scourings as well.

Lords of the Fallen gives players a chance to remake their character builds if they find themselves itching to experiment.

While Lords of the Fallen teaches players that Umbral Scourings are best collected from Soulflaying memories in the Umbral realm, the best way to get this resource involves a less passive and significantly more dangerous approach. Even so, all players will be able to farm Umbral Scourings comfortably as long as they know what to do.

The best way to farm a steady stream of Umbral Scourings is to kill Scarlet Shadows (also known as red reapers) while in the Umbral realm. Shadows start appearing once the eye on the right side of the screen turns red, and the Vigor multiplier goes all the way up to 3.0x.

Scarlet Shadows are extremely tough to kill in a fair fight, especially for low-level players. Most weapons do very little damage against them, and the Sanguinatrix becomes disabled when one is stalking the field. However, there is one thing that Scarlet Shadows aren't immune to, and that's gravity.

Like every other enemy in Lords of the Fallen, Scarlet Shadows will die instantly if they fall into a chasm. Players can lure these enemies into a ledge and Soulflay them off of it. This is easier said than done, however, as reapers are usually very aggressive. They also have teleport moves that can make them somewhat unpredictable.

When a Scarlet Shadow does fall off, Vigor wisps will spawn nearby, along with five Umbral Scourings. This amount is more than double that of a memory's worth of drops. On top of that, Scarlet Shadows respawn every five minutes or so. As a cherry on top, players will be able to earn a ton of Vigor using this method thanks to the endless Umbral creature spawns, the 3.0x Vigor multiplier, and the bucket loads of Vigor that each dead reaper drops.

This farming strategy is best performed in Pilgrim's Perch — specifically, the wooden platform that leads into the Vestige of Blind Agatha. Enter the Umbral realm, get rid of the Ardent Penitent and Pilgrims, and wait for Scarlet Shadows to start spawning.

Once one appears, cross the spine bridge and head for the beams leading back to the platform. Soulflay the reaper, collect the spoils, repeat. If the reaper chases after players, simply try again. There will be times when reapers will bug out and fall by themselves as well.

Lords of the Fallen is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
