Highlights
- Axes in The Lords of the Fallen are a versatile weapon choice, offering similar speed to hammers but with their own unique abilities and advantages.
- Some of the best axes in the game include Byron's Shovel, Tundra Axe, Executioner's Axe, Raw Mangler Axe, Splitting Axe, Beast Axe, Fungus-Encrusted Pickaxe, Marco's Axe, Lord Axe, and Grinning Axe.
- Each axe has its own strengths and weaknesses, such as scaling with certain stats or having unique elemental damage, allowing players to choose the axe that best suits their playstyle and build.
Axes are just one of the many different weapon types players can spec into in The Lords of the Fallen and for the sake of inclusion let's say this includes regular Axes as well as Grand Axes. These weapons tend to be about the same speed as Hammers and Grand Hammers if not a bit faster depending on the weapon.

10 Best Games Set In Hell, Ranked
Be it a literal or symbolic representation of Hell, these games take players on a journey to explore the depths of the infernal plane.
However, some Axes are inarguably better than others, so let's take a look at some of the best Axes players can find in The Lords of the Fallen.
10 Byron's Shovel
The Long-Awaited Reward At The End Of Byron's Questline
Name | Type | Weight | Stat Requirements | Rune Slots | Base Scaling | Base Attack Power | Base Bonus Elemental Damage |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Bryon's Shovel | Axe | 6.0 | 15 Strength & 11 Agility | 2 Strength & 1 Inferno Type Slot | Strength (C) & Agility (D) | 52 Physical & 52 Wither Damage | N/A |
Byron's Shovel is last up on the rankings and is an odd one because it's not 'really' an axe, it's a literal shovel. However, whereas the Fungus-Encrusted Pickaxe (another 'pseudo-axe') can be obtained relatively early on, this Shovel is only obtained at the end of Byron's questline, which is more than halfway through the game.
That said, once players do get their hands on this thing, they'll find that (other than its Rune Slots) this thing is a pretty stellar weapon choice all around. Not only is its innate Wither damage a huge plus, but it's the perfect weapon for anyone who loves to try and go for a Shovel Knight-esque build wherever possible.
9 Tundra Axe
Right Near Where You Fight Griefbound Rowena
Name | Type | Weight | Stat Requirements | Rune Slots | Base Scaling | Base Attack Power | Base Bonus Elemental Damage |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Tundra Axe | Grand Axe | 25.3 | 20 Strength | 2 Strength & 1 Agility Type Slot | Strength (D+) | 155 Physical Damage | N/A |
Not every weapon needs to have S+ Scaling options at +10, as not every player is solely building into one Stat or even wants to use a weapon that's designed around one stat. Because of this, the Tundra Axe is a great choice for anyone who isn't nearing the high 30s to early 40s in Strength or for anyone who just wants a high base-damage Grand Axe that just hits hard without any fluff.
And, funnily enough, even though another Grand Axe called the Angel's Axe beats the Tundra Axe in most regards once players reach 45+ Strength (since the Angel's Axe has better Scaling), because of the poor spread Rune Slots the Angel's Axe has the Tundra Axe still has it beat. In the late game, Rune Slot types are instrumental for a build, and the Tundra Axe's 2 Strength and 1 Agility Slots mean it's just a lot more useful overall.
8 Executioner's Axe
A Weapon That Sadly Isn't Found Until Players Reach One Particular Late-Game Area
Name | Type | Weight | Stat Requirements | Rune Slots | Base Scaling | Base Attack Power | Base Bonus Elemental Damage |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Executioner's Axe | Grand Axe | 22.3 | 23 Strength & 17 Agility | 3 Strength Type Slots | Strength (C) & Agility (D-) | 151 Physical Damage | N/A |
The Executioner's Axe is the first of a few weapons on here that is meant for either Quality Builds (AKA Strength and Agility) or for Strength Builds. Compared to a lot of other weapons on here the Executioner's Axe might now look like it has a ton of interesting stuff going on.

5 Best Video Games Based On Classic Literature
These games were all inspired by - if not direct adaptations of - classic literature from around the world.
But, it's a giant axe, what could be more interesting than that? Players swing it and it deals a lot of damage, and in that regard, the Executioner's Axe is a fantastic option for boss fights.
7 Raw Mangler Axe
Basic, But Basic In The Best Type Of Way
Name | Type | Weight | Stat Requirements | Rune Slots | Base Scaling | Base Attack Power | Base Bonus Elemental Damage |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Raw Mangler Axe | Axe | 5.8 | 13 Inferno | 2 Inferno & 1 Strength Type Slot | Inferno (C-) | 44 Physical & 44 Fire Damage | 60 Burn Damage |
As far as Axes go, the Raw Mangler Axe in Lords of the Fallen is relatively basic in both its visual design and its gimmicks. It's an Axe meant for Inferno Builds, and this one doesn't even scale with Strength either like other Inferno Axes do, which is where it may fall a bit short. Still, this can be compensated for a bit by using specific Consumables.
A lot of players seem to be dual-wielding these Axes in PvP since they're relatively easy to obtain. And as a final point in its favor, because this Axe has innate Fire Damage and Inferno scales with Fire Damage at a 3:1 Ratio (comparing Fire to Physical) per Stat Point, the amount of Fire Damage this thing unleashes when players reach the Inferno soft cap is pretty absurd.
6 Splitting Axe
A Gift Before Walking Into Kinrangr Guardian Folard
Name | Type | Weight | Stat Requirements | Rune Slots | Base Scaling | Base Attack Power | Base Bonus Elemental Damage |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Splitting Axe | Axe | 6.6 | 13 Agility & 11 Strength | 2 Agility & 1 Strength Type Slot | Strength (D) & Agility (C-) | 107 Physical Damage | N/A |
While Axes aren't exactly the most obvious weapons players would associate with an Agility build, the Splitting Axe is one of the best choices they have in Lords of the Fallen. The Scaling on this thing is astronomical, especially in the hands of a player who is going for the stat Soft Caps in both Strength and Agility.
Sadly players would need to go into NG+ to get two of them, but if someone were to dual-wield 2 Splitting Axes with the right Weapon Runes (Dual-Wield Damage or Physical Damage Runes) they'd find it difficult to find any enemy who could stand against them for more than a few seconds.
5 Beast Axe
A Raw Damage Weapon Found In The Fief Of The Chill Curse
Name | Type | Weight | Stat Requirements | Rune Slots | Base Scaling | Base Attack Power | Base Bonus Elemental Damage |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Beast Axe | Axe | 6.3 | 15 Agility | 3 Agility Type Slots | Agility (C) | 103 Physical Damage | N/A |
While the Splitting Axe is one of the best Agility choices for an Axe-loving player, the Beast Axe is the actual best choice. This oddly-shaped Axe only scales with Agility, and at +10 that A- Scaling is pretty ridiculous in terms of damage output.
It's a great end-game weapon choice but it's also a fantastic early-game weapon choice as the Beast Axe is found in the Fief of the Chill Curse which isn't all too far into the game overall. Plus, the baseline damage and scaling even at +0 is pretty ridiculous when compared to all of its peers.
4 Fungus-Encrusted Pickaxe
A Weapon You'll Probably End Up Farming For By Killing Basic Mobs
Name | Type | Weight | Stat Requirements | Rune Slots | Base Scaling | Base Attack Power | Base Bonus Elemental Damage |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Fungus-Encrusted Pickaxe | Axe | 7.6 | 15 Radiance & 15 Inferno | 1 Radiance, 1 Inferno, & 1 Default Type Slot | Radiance (C) & Inferno (C) | 49 Physical Damage & 49 Wither Damage | 150 Poison Damage |
For the next Axe, here's the other weapon that's technically not really even an axe, the Fungus-Encrusted Pickaxe. This thing is quite the ordeal when it comes to actually obtaining it, as it is only found as a rare drop from the Enslaved Miner mobs.

10 Hardest Boss Fights Of The 2010s, Ranked
Difficult boss fights gained a lot of popularity during the 2010s, but these next battles took matters to another level.
And by rare, it means really rare, as a lot of players have reported farming for hours for this weapon and not getting it. Still, when they do find this Pickaxe, they'll be more than happy with its Radiance Scaling, Inferno Scaling, and the fantastic amount of Poison Damage it has innately.
3 Marco's Axe
A Little Bringer Of Silence Post-Fight Gift
Name | Type | Weight | Stat Requirements | Rune Slots | Base Scaling | Base Attack Power | Base Bonus Elemental Damage |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Marco's Axe | Grand Axe | 20.9 | 20 Strength | 1 Inferno, 1 Radiance, & 1 Default Type Slot | Strength (C+), Radiance (E), & Inferno (E) | 75 Physical & 75 Wither Damage | N/A |
Wither damage in Lords of the Fallen is so incredibly strong. Sure, it's a status effect that basically demands perfection as players can spend all this time applying Wither to an enemy only to get hit once by them and ruin all that work. But in the hands of a player who is able to build and capitalize on that Wither Damage, it's a game changer.
And it's for this reason primarily that Marco's Axe is a fantastic weapon. Not only is this one of the most unique-looking Axes LotF has to offer, but it also has low stat requirements and fantastic scaling options.
2 Lord Axe
A Lord Axe To Match With The Lord Armor Set Found In Bramis Castle
Name | Type | Weight | Stat Requirements | Rune Slots | Base Scaling | Base Attack Power | Base Bonus Elemental Damage |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Lord Axe | Grand Axe | 20.1 | 18 Inferno & 12 Strength | 3 Inferno Type Slots | Strength (E) & Inferno (C+) | 76 Physical & 67 Fire Damage | N/A |
The Lord Axe is also an amazing Inferno weapon choice, but it's a bit of a step down compared to the Grinning Axe. The Scaling is a bit more split, it doesn't have the Wither damage the Grinning Axe does, and it's a bit more demanding in terms of stat requirements.
Still, the Lord Axe is a great weapon overall, and when used alongside the Grinning Axe while dual-wielding, the pair is pretty unstoppable.
1 Grinning Axe
It's Grinning About Being Hidden Behind A Hidden Wall In Bramis Castle
Name | Type | Weight | Stat Requirements | Rune Slots | Base Scaling | Base Attack Power | Base Bonus Elemental Damage |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Grinning Axe | Axe | 7.1 | 17 Inferno | 2 Inferno & 1 Default Type Slot | Inferno (B-) | 31 Physical, 31 Fire, & 31 Wither Damage | 80 Burn & 80 Ignite Damage |
The Grinning Axe is one of the most 'out there' designs in the entirety of Lords of the Fallen, and it's also one of the best weapons overall. Not only is this a rare Inferno scaling axe, but it also just does a ton of Physical, Fire, and Wither damage overall. The Grinning Axe has low Stat Requirements, high damage, and a great design, what more could people want in a top-tier weapon?
